My first show at Wonderland (Toronto)in 1984 which was a benefit for SEVA and hosted by Ken Kesey. The Band played too but I missed them. I went solo because I couldn't find anyone to go with. Not really knowing what to expect I ventured through the parking lot to the sound of sitar music and ankle bracelets. I bought a ticket and had a seat up front but I was having too much fun dancing in the aisles to make it there. |

I no longer "Toured", though I still would go to 1 stand of shows away from NY every year, not every tour. That day, I was driving the van to pick up supplies for a class. They announced Jerry's death on the radio. I had to pull over and collect myself. |

Atlanta, Ga. At least I was in a city
where the Dead had a fan base. Fla.was, and still is, a No-Mans-Land for the
Dead or any other roots music. Its too far down on the map for a lot of the
bands that tour. Atlanta was always a big town for shows, so I got lucky to
be there and that there was a place to go and reflect. I made the best of it
but was walking around in a daze that day. I will say that it is very rare
that the terms "real human being" and "rock star" are uttered
in the same breath, but with Garcia, you had a guy who was a person first and
that is very unique and special.-TB 11/26/2002. |

My last show was at
McNichols Arena in November or December of 1994. The last night's encore was Brokedown Palace. Jerry stepped up to the mike and
started singing the 2nd verse (he should have started with the first). He started laughing (kind of doubled
up), stepped back from the mike, then came up and did it *perfectly*. Great three nights of shows. And as we were walking out there were
two guys still sitting talking and one of them was saying "you know when
they sing 'I love you more than words can tell' I think they really mean
it!" Yep, I believe they
did. |

Lets see...I was a
Freshman at Eisenhower College in 76-77. The "B-Suite Boys",
Biddles, Alec, Rich, Matt, Steve and myself went down to Ithaca to see the
dead (it was my birthday w/end May 7th - May 9th), saw a great band, whose
name i cant remember but had a gorgeous long haired woman who sang, on the
green, dropped some acid, went to the Dead show and enjoyed one of the best
musical experiences of my life...nuff said |

I was 11 years old at
summer camp. I wasn't old enough to grasp the magnitude of the moment. I
respect him and his life with every shred of my being. |
