What is ArcticMUD? ArcticMUD is a multi-user dimension(MUD). It is an online fantasy
game where up to 200 people can play with & against each other. ArcticMUD is loosely based around the
popular Dragonlance series of books. The game is all text based, meaning no stunning graphics, or amazing
sounds like in EverQuest. Even without graphics or sound, ArcticMUD is by far the best exciting, enticing, interesting,
and challenging game I have ever played. The interaction with other people makes it like no other game.
My history on ArcticMUD... I started my first character on Arctic in the fall of 1994. I first started playing
from the community college in my hometown whenever I could bum a ride to campus. My first character was named
Valdimir(not to be confused with the character Vladimir of the time). He was a High Elf warrior, and I made him because
the help newbie file suggested first time characters making warriors. I never knew his abilities, and his max level was 18 or
19. He never had any +dam or +stat equipment, and his bash was very poor at its best I believe. He was the ultimate
definition of a learning character. A while into this player wipe I made a druid named Bud. This druid was much more
successful than my warrior, and maxxed at level 24 or 25. He had cone of cold, insect swarm, and a couple of other decent
tablet spells. At this time, stone skin loaded in Shadow, and Prince Lyzian loaded a number of nice druid tablets. I remember
grouping with Nyte many times to kill Prince Lyzian for the tablet/book. After I had made my druid, I really wanted to get ice
storm badly, so I started a thief and leveled him up to level 10. Every hour or so I would log on, get this thief an invis and fly.
Then I would run him to Kagonesti and check if the globe was loaded. Because of people like me and others who used to do
this, Kagonesti was changed to its current state, and the load of ice storm there hugely decreased. This thief never really did
much and maxxed at about level 15 at the end of my first pwipe.
And started pwipe #2... In this wipe I knew that I wanted to start a druid from the beginning. The MUD had been
down for nearly 3 weeks over the summer, and I was at campus every day checking if it was back up. When finally it did come
back, there had been a change in management and I was ready to play. I made a druid named Vlaxter the very first day of the
pwipe and started leveling him immediately. This druid had pretty sad stats, and maxxed at level 28. In this wipe I really started
to do some elite zoning and gruoped with some people who knew there stuff. I ended up spending a lot of time in Qua Kzar
groups and becoming more familiar with this group. One day I was in a neutral group lead by Pyrkaige and we were doing Lloth.
At the time, Lloth was located in Drow under Dwarven Keep. After we had killed her and split the eq, most people started recalling.
In came Otho(infamous Horde of Korg mage) and a basher, who I believe was named Isamu. The proceeded to kill the Lloth main
tank in very quick fashion. Needless to say, the rest of us, scared witless of the pkilling, recalled. The main tank happened to be
a good friend of mine, and so I was really pissed that he was killed. After I recalled, I ran to Balifor because I heard there was some
pkilling going down. When I got there, it was a mess. I found myself & Strathaar fighting against a few Horde of Korg, and after
Strathaar got beat up badly and recalled, I also recalled. This started my clan & pkill days. On that day I started the clan Hand of Doom
with a handful of my friends. The clan was mostly a joke, but taught me a few things about pkilling and I started working on more
difficult zones. One day while running to check the High Druid of Kagonesti, I saw Otho & a tank sitting near the zone. I spelled
up as best I could and went in and tried 6 para's on Otho. I was pretty dumb, and Otho was of course AMS. After I failed my 6th para,
Otho stood up and coned me for about 1/2 my hp. I recalled quickly, and Otho clair/relocated to me as I ran around Krynn like a
chicken with his head cut off. Finally Otho caught me in Balifor out of moves, and I died. I will never forget my clanmate Gouki
telling people that he caught otho in Mystic one day and killed him solo. He still claims to this day that he did it. I didn't really have
any other characters of note in this wipe, except a thief named Nif. Nif managed to kill a Horde of Korg mage that was AFK in graknar
tower, but did nothing else of note. This ended my second player wipe.
