 As a child Hotohori was told that the "Sei" symbol on his body ment that he was destinded to become a Seishi of Suzaku.
Being a Suzaku Seishi, he was to protect the Suzaku no Miko, who would summon the god Suzaku. He was told that the Miko would be a girl from another world. For years Hotohori dreamed of the day that he would meet the Miko, hoping that she would fall in love with him.
Growing up in th palace, Hotohori grew up quite lonely. His only "friends" were his advisors, because he was not allowed to leave the palace walls. When he first laid eyes on the Miko of Suzaku he was stucken with love. She was so lively and outgoing; she brought his soul to life.
Even though Hotohori knows that the Miko loves another, and in heart broken, he continues to protect her as a Seishi of Suzaku and as a friend.
