Is Psychiatry Harmful?

Did you know that 200,000 people die each year from side affects of medications? Did you know that only 80,000 people die yearly from illegal drugs? Did you realize the number one killer in our nation is doctors?

Doctor and author Peter Breggin (Toxic psychiatry), states that psychotherapy is no longer a course required for psychiatrists. The new breed of psychiatrists believes mental health issues are a disease and should be treated medically.Talk therapy is no longer required to help those suffering from depression and anxiety as well as other disorders. I DISAGREE! According to Thomas J. Moorehttp the big three - Prozac, Zoloft and Paxil - rank among the six best-selling drugs of any kind, and more than 130 million prescriptions were written for all antidepressants last year, according to IMS Health, a consulting firm. As a psychotherapist myself, I believe that something has drastically gone wrong with our mental health system. I see more and more people being prescribed medication and less and less people actively participating in therapy. As a member of the ACA, and a qualified psychotherapist, I realize medication is required sometimes,(please remember the keyword here is sometimes) however, I do question if we are substituting good quality therapy of some sort for a quick fix.

Below are some links that might appear to be disturbing, however, the public should be aware of. Please know that I do not agree with everything in some of these following links, but I do agree that both sides must be heard.
