solifugid

Although this solifugid appears to be quite large, he was only about the size of a brown field cricket. And luckily for me (although they are totally harmless to humans) he must have just eaten because he crouched absolutely still during our impromptu midnight photo session.

sunscorpion
In contrast, this much larger 'sun scorpion' ran so fast down the street I was forced to jump in my car to follow and find him again. From the tip of his front legs to the tip of rear legs number seven and eight he was about the size of the top of a can of Progresso ® brand soup. While he appears to have ten legs, as explained at the excellent Science in Africa site, the front two are in reality, pedipalps,  which are actually sensory organs with suckers on the end. The suckers allow this nightmarish creature to crawl up a sheer cliff of window glass. And if that is not creepy enough, this insect terror, as he runs at unbelievable speeds, holds those two front pedipalps up in the air like some kind of 1950s movie monster.
