"We would suggest to payers that it is not absolutely necessary for them to exert their lungs by yelling and shouting in order to carry ut a game properly, but it is occasionally necessary for the voices of the umpires to be heard. This is simply impossible as the game is now played when so much noise is made by the players. At home a short time ago a match was played in almost perfect silence, and it was noted how much better the players were able to assist each other and how seldom the umpires services were called for. We think this would be a good example to follow on next Saturday when polishing off the Palmerston men."

[wonder who that was?]
