Rafter will not play Hannover Left knee injury Australian Patrick Rafter announced Friday that he will not be able to take part in the ATP Tour World Championship in Hannover because of a knee injury. The Australian is currently ranked No. 3 on the ATP Tour Rankings and had a chance to reach the No. 1 spot at the end of the year."I just saw the Doctor here in Paris. My left knee is a problem that I have been aware of for a while, and it's something that comes and goes. The Doctor suggested rehabilitation for the next few weeks," said Rafter after being visited by the Tournament Doctor Bernard Montalvan.
"Obviously I'm disappointed about having to pull out of Hannover. This would have been my biggest opportunity (to reach the year-end No. 1) especially since it's the biggest event of the year, and it's something that we play for during the whole year. We all want to make it there," added the Australian.
"I'm going to do everything I can to get ready for the new season. Now I'm going to London, starting rehab for a few days. Then I fly to Bermuda for a few more days of rehab. After that I go back to Australia," said Rafter.
Richard Krajicek, who is ranked No. 8 on the Road to Hannover, announced earlier this week that his left knee needed surgery, and that his season was over.
