Teaching Quilt

This is the Quilt I use for my beginers class of quilters. After a 10 week course, of 4 hour lessons, this is the Quilt my students take home. Of course, it is their own choice of colours and fabrics, but the blocks are the same. Each block is pieced individually and quilited by hand. I find learning the craft by hand, shows the precision and cared needed to create a quilt to be proud of, and the beauty of the work. When all blocks are created, the sashings are added, and everything is pieced together and the quilt is layered. When that stage is reached, the sashings and borders are quilted, then the quilt is bound. I find this method easiest for begininers, as they see the completion of each block as we move through the class. I enjoy teaching the art of patchwork; I love to see the pleasure and pride of each student, as they realise *they have created this*. Some of the people I have tought, including my sister Doreen, have gone on with confidence to bigger and better things. I enjoy the phone calls, from past students, telling me about what they are making now, and asking for advise. Often, they dont really need my help at all, it is just a matter of needing a sounding board - two heads are always better than one. I have learned a great deal from the people I have taught; personally and technically. They often ask questions about things I have never thought of .... it is a good learning tool for me. I must say, my sister is my my most successful student, which means I get to see and enjoy all of her new work. I will be taking pictures of her work to link to this site. Please come back, from time to time, and visit with us. Enjoy.
