Lisa's Tulip Quilt
Lisa de Boer is a dear friend of many years. She is Godmother to my three sons, and a wonderful and talented lady. She is an acomplished leadlighter and glass maker with her own business in Queensland. We met when i was living in her home town of Sale, in Victoria. Many, many good nights have been shared with Lisa!! with lots of headaches in the morning to prove it!! and our families have remained close over the years. We visited Lisa on our way back to Perth for my neices wedding, quilt in tow. She fell in love with the type of work I was doing, and over a drink or 15, she convinced me I loved her enough to make her a quilt, too. Lisa loves tulips, and the burgundy colours, so we designed the quilt around this, then she made the lamps, and decorated the whole bedroom around the quilt. It took me a year and a half to make this quilt (of course doing other things along the way!) and Andrew worked out, there is over 2000 yards of hand quilting stiched into the fabric. Although it doesn't show in this picture well, there is extensive crosshatching, less than and inch apart over the entire quilt, except for the sides, which is embellished with a traditional Amish rooster pattern. Without my knowing, Lisa entered this quilt into one of the exhibitions, where it one first prize for handquilting, and the Best Exhibit of the Show. The nicest thing about this quilt, is the great love Lisa has for it; it is her most cherished belonging.
