This past June/July,
Sandy
and I took
a wonderful vacation. It took us north thru Nevada, then
west into the Sierra
Nevadas of
California. Our first stop was at Mono
Lake.
Quite a history surrounding the lake, and the nearby Mono
Craters. I wont go
into the history, but it's the second oldest lake on the
continent. |
From there we headed
to . June
LakeThis pic is a
view from the balcony of the lodge where we stayed. This
is the lodge from the
far side of the lake. It was too bad that we could only
stay one nite here, but I
really enjoyed the
stay. |
The next morning, we
took off again...first to Silver
Lake, which is
just a few miles from June Lake. See the building in the
background of this pic? Well, that's the little store and
cafe. The first pic you saw in this story was taken there...in
the cafe. Since we were on a deadline to get to
Sacramento, we had to head out..and kinda in a hurry. |
We headed up Tioga
Pass. I really
like this pic..from right below this
tree,
a cascade of cool water fell to the roadside. Well, from
the pass, we headed into Yosimite
Nat'l Park. We stopped
along the way for a break at Tuolomne
Meadows and
the Tuolomne
River. |
|
We took alot of pics
while in the park, but i'll build another page for them...but
i did like a certain pic Sandy took of Half Dome...the
one i call The
Domes...you see,
Half Dome is on the right...and, well...the other half is
on the left!! *snicker* |
|
Ok...from Yosimite, we
headed, and kind of in a hurry, to Sacramento a wedding.
No wedding pics here, i'll build another page for them...as
a gift to the bride and groom. We did have a great time
in Sacramento, and were there for 3 very busy days. |
From Sacramento, we
headed west...on the way to the coast. But along the way
we stopped a couple of times. First stop was in Napa. It
was a beautiful day to see a beautiful town. We walked
around 'old town' Napa for awhile and stopped for lunch
and a great cafe called Gillwoods.
A wonderful lunch we had...salmon omelette, spiced
chicken sausage..you know, that kind of stuff. YUM!!! |
From there, it was on
to Sonoma and the Sebastiani
Winery. There
enjoyed some wine
tasting. |
|
Ok..sidebar story. *LOL*
On the Sunday after the wedding, it was 'gift opening'
day. Well, it was also race day, you know how i love
NASCAR!! I really didnt want to go to this gift opening,
especially because the race was going on less than 100
miles from Sacramento!! Much to my chagrin, i went to the
gift thing. Well, while in Sonoma, im met the driver of
this tour
bus.
I asked her for directions to Sears
Point Raceway.
I was gonna get there one way or another, even the day
AFTER the race. *LOL* Well, i made it!!! They wouldn't
let me into the racetrack to take any pics, so i had to park
on the highway and
dash across the road to get a good pic. I had to run up a
small hill full of weeds that bit real hard to get this
pic of the bridge over the track.
And to think..the day before, Mark Martin and the #24
raced to the finish under this bridge!!! |
