Q-branch: Gadgets

Standard Issue Briefcase

Issued 1963. Status: Stored at lab

The first and most original gadget to be delivered to Bond out of Q Branch was this briefcase. Issued as standard equipment given to all "00" agents, it was only used in one movie, From Russia With Love though cameo apperances in different are unconfirmed but possible. Equipped with 20 rounds of ammunition, a throwing knife, 50 gold soverignes, a specially designed tear gas container, and holding an AR7 sniper's folding rifle, this case undoubtedly saved Bond's life fighting Red Grant on the Orient Express.

Tape Recorder

Issued 1963. Status: Stored at lab

A tape recorder cleverly disguised as a movie camera, Bond uses this Q branch gadget in From Russia With Love to take details of the Lektor decoder from Tatiana Romanova. When MI6 confirm that the description is genuine, they authorise Bond's mission to retrieve the decoder and the girl at any cost.

The Homing Transmitter

Issued 1964. Status: Stored at lab

A very powerful homing device used by Bond to follow Goldfinger's Rolls Royce from a distance. The transmitter's frequency could be picked up by the receiver in 007's specially modified Aston Martin DB5.

Bond's Rebreather

Issued 1965. Status: Stored at lab

A small underwater breathing device, this is one gadget that saves Bond's life. In Thunderball, 007 escapes certain death in Largo's shark pool by using the rebreather to avoid drowning whilst swimming to safety. It again comes to his aid later in the mission when he engages Largo's henchmen in an epic underwater battle.

The Rocket Cigarette

Issued 1967. Status: Destroyed (used)

This innocuous looking cigarette hides a tiny, explosive rocket which can easily be activated once the cigarette is lit. A simple idea, but highly effective when Bond is being held at gunpoint by Blofeld in You Only Live Twice.

007's Mini Camera

Issued 1979. Status: Stored at lab

Ideal for undercover work, this mini camera can be secreted anywhere. When posing as an investigator for the missing Moonraker shuttle, 007 uses this personalised version of the Q branch camera to take valuable pictures of blueprints from the Venini glass plant.

Wrist Dart Gun

Issued 1979. Status: Stored at lab

Although mentioned as standard equipment for all "00" agents, the wrist dart gun was only featured in Moonraker. Strapped to the users wrist, it worked on nerve impulses to fire. The gun came with ten darts, five were blue tipped, with armor piercing heads, and the other five were red tipped, with cynanide poison, causing death in 30 seconds. Bond used the dart gun only three times. Once, to "test" it and annoy M a little, the second, to excape from a centrofuge gone crazy, and the third was used to rid the world of Drax.

Q's Pet

Issued 1985. Status: Stored at Lab

This robot was used by Q to find out if 007 was still alive or not.Q and the robot found Bond having a relaxing shower at the girl's house.

Keyfinder

Issued 1987. Status: Destroyed (Self-destruct)

An ordinary keyfinder? Not from Q Branch. They made some clever audio-actuated "improvements" to this keyfinder. When armed, if someone whistled the first bars of "Rule Britannia", stun gas would be released, with range being five feet, and capable of knocking out a normal opponent for thirty seconds. When Bond whistled his personal signal to the keyfinder---a wolf whistle, naturally---the high concentrated exploseves would go off. The keyfinder also came with keys that could open up 90% of the world's locks. Bond used this keyfinder to escape from an Afhghanistan prison and to finish Brad Whittaker in The Living Daylights.

Signature Gun

Issued 1989. Status: Missing, presumed destroyed

A high powered snipers rifle disguised as a camera, this gun also has a palm-print reader implanted in the handle. When it's programmed, only the person originally programmed can use the gun. Used only in Licence to Kill, this gun's special signature saved Bond's life when the gun was taken by a narcotics agent from Hong Kong.

Piton Gun

Issued 1995. Status: Stored at lab

This piton gun was used to get Bond down to the chemicals warehouse in the opening scene of Goldeneye. Complete with high tensity wire, a retractor, and a lazer which cuts through metal at close range, this piton gun singlehandedly got Bond into the factory.

Grenade Pen

Issued 1995. Status: Destroyed (Used)

This pen, in Goldeneye, doubles as a class four grenade. By clicking the back three times, the four second fuse is activated. Another three clicks disarms it. The pen was blown up inside 006's Cuban base, causing the whole operation to crumble. Now, the pen is truly mighter than the sword.

Piton Belt

Issued 1995. Status: Stored at lab.

The piton gun was issued to Bond in the film 'Goldeneye' by Q. A typical leather belt size 34 with a 35 foot repeling wire code built in. Used in the military archives scene.

Ericsson Mobile Phone/Remote Control

Issued 1997. Status: Stored at lab.

Delivered to Bond in Tomorrow Never Dies, this is the perfect cell phone. Not only can it perform all the functions of a normal cell phone, but it also has a fingerprint scanner, 5000 volt shocker, a lockpick, and controls the defence systems of the BMW 750i. But that's not all! When opened up, you can use the touchpad to control the BMW by remote. Now you can literally be a backseat driver.
