My Tennis Career
Well this page is basically about my tennis life. I probably forgotten most of it but
I'll try my best to remember it... Hmmmm where should I began. Okay! I got it!
It all started about 8 years ago. I started playing tennis at the age of 13.
I was inspired to play tennis after watching Michael Chang beat Stefan Edberg
in the 1990 French Open. I started to take up coaching lessons from Uncle Tony,
along with my brother, Nicky.
At the beginning, it was so frustrating coz me and my brother were picking up
tennis balls instead of hitting the ball. We used to bring heaps off balls to the
tennis courts so we don't have to pick them up all the time. hehehe... one
great tip from me!!! My dad used to come to the courts to give some support too.
Without him, I don't think I would be that successful..thanks Dad!
We(me and my bro) trained day and night at the club..though we were picking up
balls most of the time, we just keep hitting the ball until we got tired. I
remember we used to go to the club every night after dinner and play until the
supervisor has to chase us off because the club only opens until 10 pm.
As time goes by we started to hit the ball more... (wooohooo no more picking up balls)
and we developed the interest into playing. And of course we started to play
with people who are better than us... another great tip... that's how you will
improve faster.
And then I started to play competitions. My first competition I played was my
school's inter house tournament. I was a bit nervous but it turn out alright.
We managed to come first in that tournament. It was a small tournament but it
really did gave me a sense of achievement.
And then I started to compete in bigger tournaments, state level and
international level and some circuits. Of course during my first years I got trashed most of
the time. But as years go by, I began to gain more experience and starting to
win a few tournaments. I reached my peak when I was 16(1993). That was when I became
the state Under-15 junior champ. And that year I managed to reach the quarters,
semis and finals of some major tournaments.
My biggest achievement was winning the gold medal in the team event at the
fifth Malaysian Games. In 1994 I was ranked fourth (junior) in Malaysia.
And last year I represented Sydney Uni in the Inter-varsity games. Well
