Latin and Firefly... not your typical pairing.

However, take one part crazy writer, one part too many history classes, one part five years of Latin, and one part obsessive Rayne fan... Mix 'em together and you'll make 'Lessons in Latin.' Admittedly I did not sit down and say to myself, 'i'm gonna write a Firefly story in which Jayne speaks Latin.' Rather I sat down and just started writing without any plans or directions.

What sprang forth was a little story called "BOUND."

A story in which Jayne dies and River follows him into the afterlife. In this story I incorporated the idea that Jayne and River where Bound from life to life. And one of the lives they shared happened to be in Ancient Rome, during the age of Caesar. Thus the speaking Latin. I added a closing scene to the story in which JAYNE spoke in this dead language to the crew as a way to portray that perhaps he and River may have recalled some of their past. BOUND did unexpectedly well, receiving the most reviews of any previous story I had written.

Having already unconsciously set up a sequel, the story started to haunt me, and I began to wonder what were the consequences of this momentary death, how would it effect Jayne, River and the relationship they had. From here it goes to a point of instability, as i'm not quiet sure what's going to happen.

Synopsis: After being mortally wounded, Jayne crosses over, River following just a step behind him.

Synopsis: Things become increasingly confusing as River and Jayne are continually drawn into the worlds of Telphusa and Janus.

Synopsis: As the memories grow stronger, Jayne sinks deeper into the world of Janus, acting out impulses that do not necessarily belong to him.

Chapter Quattuor: Completed and posted.

Synopsis: The significance of Telphusa and Janus relationship begins to become clearer.

Chapter Quinque: Completed and posted.

Synopsis: River and Telphusa meet as Jayne plunges head first into Janus' nightmare.

Chapter Sex: Completed and posted.

Synopsis: Jayne wakes up- or is he really Jayne?

Chapter Septum: Completed and posted.

Synopsis: Jayne has a plan-

Chapter Octo: Completed and posted.

Synopsis: Jayne and Janus meet for the first time.

Chapter Novem: Completed and posted.

Synopsis: Under attack and without a much needed mercenary - what's Mal to do?

Chapter Octo: In progress at three pages as of 01/21/08.

Synopsis: The ships crew has lost control - steering Jayne and River towards an all too familiar end.

Previews...

Incorporating clips from HBO's ROME I spliced and diced together images of Firefly, trying to present a theater like preview of the story that i'm currently undertaking.  It does take some imagination to ignore the fact that you never actually see River or Jayne in the Roman settings.
