Columbine High Massacre

It is a bit out of character, I think, for me to express my views on a tragedy such Columbine High. But, I am going to, not because of what happened, but because of the aftermath.

First of all I would like to say that it is a genuine tragedy what happened there, and even someone as obsessed with death as I am can see that. It is one thing to constantly contemplate suicide, and quite another to kill twenty plus people then turn the gun on yourself. I feel a deep sorrow for all the families of the victims, and to them I would like to send my condolences and best wishes. (Perhaps a short prayer if I believed in god).

That having been said, I will now get to the blunt end of this...

As I stated before, it is a genuine tragedy what happened, but the media coverage that it is getting is definitely not helping anyone...Not the families of the killers, the families of the victims, and certainly not other disturbed youngsters who are seeking their calling, and fifteen minutes of fame.

Does anyone out there remember when they used to show those crazy people jump on the field and run around during NFL games? It used to happen all the time, and it used to make all the sports highlight films. Once they stopped showing them, and thereby quit glorifying it, it stopped people from jumping on the field almost immediately, and you hardly ever see an incident of it anymore.

That is what needs to be done with cases such as this. Sure, the world has a right to know, but limit it to once. Just tell the world how disgusted you are with the tragedy and move on. The more they show it over and over, on the news every day for two weeks, what is that doing to other disturbed youngsters out there? It is making them think that if they do it themselves they will become famous...And that is just wrong!

Now that I have my public service message and opinion out of the way, I will get to what really steams me about the whole thing.

Since this happened they have been trying to blame it on everything from Marilyn Manson to Adolf Hitler. What the hell has gone so wrong in our country that we can blame children for the acts of a sadistic ruler from 50 years ago. Or on some glam queen like Marilyn Manson? Hell, they even talked extensively about one of them "Maintaining a web site" as if there is something evil about that.

This has nothing to do with Marilyn Manson (as much as I hate him) and it has nothing to do with the game Quake, or Doom, and it certainly has nothing to do with Adolf Hitler, nor does it have anything to do with internet, or any of the other crap that the media is trying to blame it on. What it does have to do with is a couple of disturbed kids. A couple of disturbed kids that probably needed a little more discipline in their lives, and perhaps a bit more adult supervision.

Though it is always easier to believe that kids become this way because of the influence of rock music and peer pressure, I have a big problem believing it. I listen to the sickest of the sick death metal, Cannibal Corpse, Slayer, Death, Carcass, Mercyful Fate, and I never just went off and killed people, and I credit that to parents teaching me right and wrong, and DISCIPLINING me when I made a mistake.

Perhaps I am wrong and the parents of the killers are victims themselves, but if they didn't know that their kids were out there building pipe bombs, or know that they had all sorts of guns, then they were not paying enough attention to them in the first place. And as they dry their eyes and say "Dear God, WHY?" They need look no further than the mirror.

And to finish this I will say that to the parents of kids who are watching all the news coverage of this, watch your kids reaction to it, it should be one of horror, and if it is not, then, MR., you better sit little junior down and have a talk with him before he starts building bombs.
