During this time he was in the service, he met Wendy - ? and together they had a son named Lloyd J. Thomas Jr. there is no other information on this child. Prior to his retirement for health reasons, Buddy was a custodian and bus driver for the White Salmon High School.

After graduating he entered the US Coast Guard and was stationed in Astoria, OR. Patricia brought a son to this marriage, Jerome Jon Kahler, born Dec.16,1977 in Portland, Multnomah Co., OR.
