LEROY JOHNSTON: Leroy was born in 1852 in Leslie, Ingham Co., MI. He died 18 Nov. 1934 and is buried in the Machias Cemetery in Machias, Snohomish Co., Washington. He married Sept. 8, 1876 in Brady, Saginau Co., Michigan, Lucy THOMAS. Daughter of Cyrenus and Charity THOMAS. She was born in 1858 in Oworro, Sheawasse Co., MI. She died 15 Jan. 1917 in Machias, Snohomish Co., Washington and is buried in the Machias Cem., Machias, Snohomish Co., Washington. Her Obituary is as follows:
EVERETT HERALD - MACHIAS NEWSMrs. Lucy A. Johnston of Machias died Monday afternoon at 4:30 at the home of her Mother, Mrs. C.C. Thomas in Snohomish. She was a suffer for seven or eight years and for the past year was confined to her home, her death being caused by cancer. Mrs. Johnston was born in Michigan, 11,21,1858 and spent her youth and was married at Brady, Saginau Co., Michigan 9/8/1876 to LeRoy Johnston. They came to Snohomish Co. 17 years ago. She united with the Methodist church at an early age. She was an ardent worker in the W.C.T.U. and Ladies Aid society and was also a member of the Womans Relief Corp. in Snohomish. The deceased is survived by her husband LeRoy Johnston of Machias; one son Lloyd of Tacoma; her Mother Mrs. C.C. Thomas of Snohomish; a sister Mrs. Ella Clark of Detroit, Michigan; two brothers George Thomas of Grand View, WA.; and C.A. Thomas of Sulton, WA.; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 from the Congregational Church in Machias by Rev. D.E. Wilson. Burial will be in Machias Cemetery, beside a son who died about eight years ago.
Two children died. The 1880 Saganaw, Michigan census shows Leroy, Lucy and 1 child, Lloyd. The 1910 Snohomish Co., WA. census has Leroy and Lucy living in Machias, Snohomish Co., WA. It shows tha Leroy and Lucy had been married for 33 years. In 1915 census they are still living there but now has Grandmother living with them. We now know that the Grandmother was Lucy's Mother, Charity THOMAS. In 1920 Snohomish City, Snohomish Co., WA. Leroy and Charity THOMAS were living in her home in Snohomish City.
