April 3 The NBA Expansion Committee recommended Minnesota be granted an NBA franchise beginning with the 1989-90 season
Aprill 22 The Board of Governors voted unanimously to expand the NBA by four teams--Miami and Charlotte in 1988-89, Minnesota and Orlando in 1989-90. The purchase price of $32.5 million is announced.
1988
September 17 Unveiled logo at a news conference. Earlier the nickname "Timberwolves" had been selected by a 2-to-1 margin over "Polars" in a vote of 842 City Councils throughout the state.
July 12 A site dedication ceremony for the Wolves' new arena took place in downtown Minneapolis.
August 23 Named Bill Musselman head coach.
1989
June 15 Selected 11 players in the NBA Expansion Draft.
November 3 Played inaugural regular-season game. The Seattles SuperSonics defeated the Timberwolves, 106-94 at Seattle Coliseum. Sam Mitchell scored the first points in club history, a pair of free throws at 11:15 of the first quarter.
November 8 Played inaugural regular-season home contest losing to the Chicago Bulls, 96-84. Michael Jordan scored a game-high 45 points to lead the Bulls over the Wolves before 35,427 at the Metrodome.
November 10 Recorded first victory defeating the Philadelphia 76ers, 125-118, in overtime before 29,117 at the metrodome.
November 29 Earned first road victory, 105-100, before 15,008 at Miami Arena.
1990
April 17 The third-largest crowd in NBA history, 49,551, came to the Metrodome for Fan Appreciation Night, enabling the Timberwolves to become the NBA's all-time single-season attendance champions. The season total of 1,072,572 was an average of 26,160 per game and topped Detroit's previous 1987-88 league record by 6,067
October 13 Target Center officially opened with a ceremonial "jump-ball."
November 2 In the first regular-season game at Target Center, teh Timberwolves opened teh 1990-91 season with a 98-85 win over the Dallas Mavericks before a sellout crowd of 19,006.

April 22 Relieved Bill Misselman and assistant coach Tom Thibodeau of their duties.
May 16 Felton Spencer named to teh NBA All-Rookie Second Team.
June 19 Named Jimmy Rodgers head coach.

March 23 NBA Commisioner David Stern announced that the Timberwolves had been selected to play host to teh 1994 NBA All-Star Weekend
June 1 Named Jack McCloskey general manager.
1993
January 11 Relieved Jimmy Rodgers of his head coaching duties and named Sidney Lowe interim head coach.
March 24 Promoted Sidney Lowe from interim head coach to head coach.
April 25 Micheal Williams broke Calvin Murphy's all-time NBA record for consecutive free throws when he hit his 79th straight in the final home game of the season. Williams continued adding to his mark, making five more in the contest to end the season at 84.
May 20 Christian Laettner is named to the NBA All-Rookie first team.
November 9 Micheal Williams' NBA record consecutive free-throw streak came to an end at 97 with a second-quarter miss at San Antonio.
1994
Febuary 12 Isaiah Rider won the 11th annual Gatorade Slam-Dunk Championship during All-Star Saturday at Target Center. Rider finished his winning performance with a between-the-legs, one-handed dunk he called the "East Bay Funk"
May 5 Isaiah Rider is named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team.
May 23 Announced the sale of the Timberwolves to Top Rank of Louisiana, pending NBA approval.
June 15 The NBA Relocation Committe unanimously recommended (6-0) that the NBA Board of Governors disapprove the sale of the Timberwolves to Top Rank of Louisians.
June 21 The NBA Board of Governors voted 25-1 to disapprove the sale of the Timberwolves.
August 5 Announced the sale of the Timberwolves to a group led by businessman and former Minnesota state senator Glen Taylor.

January 9 Rookie forward Kevin Garnett sarts his first NBA game, at the L.A. Lakers. At 19 years, 7 months and 20 days, he is, at the time, the third-youngest player to start a game in NBA history.
