Inzinya the Bounty Hunter

by Tanelle

*Some of you may recognise Inzinya from an Internet Star Wars rpg carried out via email. Inzinya is a character that Tanelle has created.*

Description
Inzinya is a tall, slender young woman, with luminous green eyes. Her unruly mane of raven black hair hangs loosely down her back in soft, yet striking waves. When combined, her high cheekbones, straight nose, and strong chin, make an angular, curiously elegant face. Her skin is pale and clear, but her arresting eyes and hair clearly dominate her features. She looks intelligent and cunning, her green eyes showing a hardened coldness. She is extremely fit and athletic, yet her well-built, muscular body moves in a graceful, catlike manner. Her long, feminine, yet not delicate fingers, are always close to her side where a number of weapons hang from a belt. Her stealth and quick, precise movements strengthen the mysteriousness of this warrior-like girl. Inzinya dresses in an odd assortment of clothes. She has little time for looks and dress, her main attire being pants, shirts, shorts and boots. She prefers to dress in darker colours because of her chosen profession, blacks and dark purples being her favourite colours. She is often seen wearing a dark purple cape, and matching knee-length boots. Inzinya also has little time for her long hair which hangs uncontrollably down her back, although a streak of purple crowns the black mane.

Inzinya’s Family
Inzinya was most likely born on the cosmopolitan world of Huruka, in the Saydos star system. Her real name, as she acquired the name “Inzinya” at the age of four, is unknown to her, as is her family name. Details of her life suggest that she may be the lost relative of the Caruchi family. This family is well-known and respected on Huruka, and they reported that some time ago they lost members of their family in a star cruiser crash on the primitive planet Nagagi. They reported that Johan Caruchi’s family, that consisted of Lindia Garos, his wife, and his four children Sena, Jace, Janara, and Karis, all died in a cruiser crash some years ago, with the exception of his daughter Janara. The entire family were all found dead at the site of the crash, but there was no sign of the then four year old girl.

Inzinya knows little of her life when she was younger than four, as she was raised on the planet Nagagi by a species called the Inamu. She recalls vaguely her ‘adopted’ family telling stories of the ‘great white flying beast’ that flew to the ground with startling speed and died. They would talk about how they found a little girl, Inzinya, in the stomach of this animal, who had obviously eaten her. They described the great wonders they found in its belly, and the other people that had been eaten by the animal. But then one day the beast had disappeared, they would tell Inzinya, and they never heard of it again.

The site of the crash and the area of the forest that Inzinya grew up in are very close to one another, and suggest that Inzinya could be the missing girl, Janara. However, the family’s efforts to contact Inzinya have failed as she has little time for formal matters such as this. The family is also reluctant to accept the fact that Inzinya could be their lost relative because of her wild nature.

Inzinya’s Inamu family is made up of two parents, and two brothers. Her mother is Kazin, her father Lemu, and her brothers are Lihkna and Urun. They are part of the Inamu tribe of Yamahla, and are quite a respected family in their tribe because of the successful warrior life of all their children, including Inzinya.

The Inamu Species
The Inamu species are the native inhabitants of the planet Nagagi in the Terijos star system. Most of the planet Nagagi is made up of hostile forest areas, that are inhabited by the fierce Inamu tribes. These tribes are extremely aggressively protective of their territory and will go to any lengths to keep it theirs. Tribal wars are common, and as the saying goes, to the victor go the spoils. Humans have tried to settle on Nagagi, but the Inamu make it nearly impossible. However, a few civilised cities have been established, but these are often at threat because of the tribes. Humans and Inamu, it seems, were not meant to live together, but on Nagagi they are coping, even if it is with some difficulty.

The Inamu are a primitive species that are similar to humans in many ways. They enjoy power and become somewhat greedy where possessions and wealth are concerned. They feel emotions and believe in the family structure. However, that’s where the similarities end. They believe strongly in the fighting of wars, seeing these as a way to prove one’s strength of character and body. They live their lives in hopes of becoming great warriors, female and males alike, because this means power within the tribe.

The Inamu are also very different in appearance to humans. They are taller than humans, but not quite as tall as Wookiees, and have wrinkled, greyish skin. Most Inamu are very thin, by choice. It is the Inamu belief that if a male is thin, he is agile, and agile equals good warrior skills. If a female is thin, it means she is also a good fighter, and equals being able to support and protect her family with deadly skill. But it is also the Inamu belief that everyone should be treated fair, so larger Inamu are also respected, although not as much as thin Inamu. Larger Inamu are seen to be able to eat a lot, and therefore they have enjoyed life. Females and males are equal in the Inamu beliefs, and some of the greatest historical warriors have been female. All Inamu have large round eyes and small mouths. Their heads are quite large, and the females have hair that sprouts from the exact top of their head and grows in one large clump, while the men are bald. How long a female’s hair is also is a status symbol. It is believed that the longer a female’s hair is, the more power she has within her tribe as she has time to care for her hair. Short haired females are seen as being not able to grow their hair because they are working too hard, and are assumed to be maids, servants, or concubines. On the end of each Inamu’s toes and fingers, there is a bluish coloured nail that the Inamu shape into a point to aid in war. They have three toes on each foot, and four fingers on each hand. The Inamu male and female are built like the male and female human, with the same reproductive organs. They wear animal and lizard skins, as well as strong leaves, to protect their bodies from the environment and from the eyes of other Inamu. The punishment for a crime within the Inamu tribes is having to go naked in public, as this is seen as shameful.

The Inamu language is made up of a series of tongue clicks and primitive like words. It is one of the hardest languages to learn, next to Wookiee.

The structure of Inamu tribes is something that has baffled anthropologists throughout the galaxy. To an outsider, it seems like there isn’t any conceivable tribal structure, but really there is. The highest position in the tribe is the position of matriach. The female who acquires this position can only acquire it if they have contributed greatly in many battles, raised healthy Inamu children, be knowledgeable of the surrounding bush and wildlife, and also be able to survive for 10 days without any help from any other Inamu. Females who become matriachs are quite old as they have then had time to fulfil the requirements of becoming a matriach. The matriach’s husband has no real placing in the tribe, he is simply known as the matriach’s husband. The next highest placing is patriach. He basically has to have fulfilled the requirements of matriach, but it is his wife who has had to have the children and not him. His wife also has no position, and is referred to as the patriach’s wife. The next highest positions belong to immediate families, whose children are great warriors, and who have survived through harsh conditions. All members of the family, no matter what sex or age, hold the same ranking. For instance, next highest position after patriach would go to a family, who would be referred to as Family 1, and all members of that family would be referred to as 1. For example, Inzinya’s family was placed at Family 4 level. Her mother was referred to as Kazin 4, her father Lemu 4, her brothers Urun 4 and Lihkna 4, and she was referred to as Inzinya 4. Of course, members of her family regarded each other without the number. Inzinya’s other relatives, such as cousins etc, would have to prove their own families worth, as only immediate family are considered when proclaiming Families. As soon as an one of an Inamu couples offspring marry, the family looses their title and position, and the parents can never regain any title in the tribe. They are then referred to as ‘prior folk’. The family numbers go up to 16, and then the families left over have no position in the tribe, except for the tag ‘loose families’.

Inamu are only allowed to marry members of their own tribe or members of allied tribes. If an Inamu decides to marry into an enemy tribe, and unknown tribe, or into their own family, they are punished with public nakedness, disownment by their families and banishment from their tribes.

Inzinya’s Life
As Inzinya was so young when she was discovered by the Yamahla tribe, her whole life has revolved around their beliefs.

At an early age, Inzinya realised that she was an outcast in the Inamu society. By the Inamu’s standards of beauty, she could never hope for marriage and children. Seeing that she would never be accepted through fitting in, she concentrated on being a warrior. After a while, she had moulded herself and her body into the ultimate killing machine, becoming lethal with weapon handling, and physically strong. The fact that she had not been accepted also hardened her. Inzinya turned into a cold, sly hunter.

At the age of 12, Inzinya took part in her first tribal war. Her years of strict training in self-sufficiency, strength and expert killing, proved to be worthwhile as she became well known for her handling of the war. Within a few months, Inzinya was one of the prominent warriors within the tribe, known as a tough and cunning combatant.

When Inzinya was only a few months into her fourteenth year, she and a group of other warriors were sent to investigate two imposters who were seen near the tribe’s territory. The imposters turned out to be two fifteen year old humans whom had gotten lost their way. Inzinya had never seen humans in her life, and soon became well accustomed with the human way of living. She became a messenger between the Inamu and the humans, aiding with trade and other related matters. However, the humans still where wary of Inzinya, mainly because of her physical power and the coldness that she exuded in her actions and attitude. As much as she had become more like a human, she was still a cunning warrior, not hesitating to kill a possible danger with the cold hardness she had bestowed upon herself.

At the age of 17, Inzinya met a struggling smuggler by the name of Noris Drake, and they soon became the best of friends. Noris was the only person who Inzinya let down her guard around, and he saw the warmer side of the warrior girl. They set off together across the galaxy, becoming a profitable smuggling team. But Inzinya missed the thrill of the hunt, and the feeling of triumph when she felled an opponent.

Inzinya found her forte in bounty hunting. She soon became a bounty hunter known throughout the galaxy as a cunning, skilful and daring killer, being dangerous in personal combat and being able to track anything that moved. Her coldness and glacial attitude was the cause of many people fearing the bounty hunter known simply as Inzinya.

At 24, Inzinya left the smuggling business for good, and concentrated solely on bounty hunting. Noris and Inzinya went their separate ways, and for some time after this, Inzinya struggled financially. She had no ship, no home, and no friends. One particularly substantial bounty, however, changed all that. With the credits she earned form this bounty, she purchased her own ship, naming it the Inza Flame. She named her ship in memory of Noris, who had grown to call Inzinya, Inza, in the years they had flown across the galaxy together.
