Chapter One
It was a warm summer day, like most summer days in Orlando. Kristine and her best friend, Lynn, went for a walk to celebrate Kristine's high school graduation.
"So, Monday we go to the beach, Tuesdays we go to the park, Wednesdays..." Lynn was interrupted by Kristine.
"Lynn look" She started "I really need a job this summer. I need to pay for acting school. I can't!"
"All right, I'm sorry. Just a thought." Lynn surrendered
"Excuse me," a blonde woman approached Kristine "I couldn't help overhearing, did you say you needed a job over the summer?"
"Well, actually yes I do." Kristine's face lit up.
"Well, I'm looking for a sitter over the summer. This is perfect! My name is Jane." The woman replied extending her hand.
"Hi my name is Kristine." she replied shaking Jane's hand.
"Here honey I'll give you my number and you can call me later and I'll tell you all about it. ok?" She said fishing through her purse for a piece of paper and a pen.
"Yeah, of course!" She replied not believing how perfect this was.
"Ok, here ya go honey. Now please call, I really need you." Jane handed her the paper.
"Of course I will! Bye. Thanks!" She said taking the paper and walking again with Lynn.
"You're welcome dear!" Jane said walking back into her house.
" Oh my god Lynn do you know how perfect this is!?" Kristine exclaimed.
"Ok, calm down girl!" Lynn said chuckling at how funny Kristine was acting over a job. ' Man,' she thought 'She must really wanna go to acting school.'
"Well," Kristine said as they approached her house "I'm gonna go call her.
This is perfect! Bye!" She hugged Lynn and ran to the door.
"Bye!" Lynn laughed. She then walked into her house next door.
Kristine ran in the door and up stairs. "I've gotta--"She yelled forgetting she no longer lived with her parents. "Kristine wake up! No more parents, remember?"
She plopped down on her bed and grabbed her phone and dialed the phone number that Jane gave her.
"Hello?" She heard a guy's voice answer.
"Hi, is Jane there?" She asked
"Yeah, hang on." he replied. He moved th phone away and yelled "Mom!"
"Hello?" Jane asked.
"Hi Jane, it's Kristine." she answered.
"Hi dear! Ok, here's the deal. I have two sons, but only one you need to watch. He's 12 and..."
"Wait," Kristine interrupted "He's 12?"
"Yep, when you meet him you'll find out everything." Jane explained
"OK" Kristine replied
"Anyways," Jane began again " I'll need you for the whole summer. It's a live-in baby-sitting job. Is that alright?"
"Yes, that's fine." she answered
" OK, great. Now Nick, that's my other son, is usually gone alot that's why I need someone here, and I won't be here either. Nick will be here to sleep and eat though!" she joked. "OK," Jane said more seriously "Now about the money.."
She told her how much she'd pay her, and Kristine was in shock.
"Wha--!" was all she could say.
"When you meet them, you'll understand" Jane reassured her.
"Oh-Ok" she replied almost speechless.
"How's tomorrow sound?" We can move your stuff into Nick's guest room."
"Wait, Nick has his own guest room?" Kristine asked surprised.
"No," Jane answered "Oh I'm sorry! I forgot to tell you! This is Nick's house, we live in California, but Aaron is visiting Nick for the summer, well he's gonna try at least. Nick's just so busy. That's why I need a sitter. Is that all ok with you?"
"Of course!" she answered "So, tomorrow, say about 11:00?"
"Great! I'll see you tomorrow and introduce you all. Bye honey!"Jane hung up the phone.
Kristine hung up the phone. 'All that money for a 12 year old?' she thought to herself 'What gives?'
"Sh*t!" she said looking at the clock "10 o-clock! I was on the phone forever!"
She got into her P.J.'s, turned the light off, and pulled up the covers. She drifted off to sleep wondering about the 'Mystery kid Aaron' and his brother Nick.
