CLINICAL RESEARCH STUDIES  

RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS

R. A. OUTCOME STUDY
- This study is designed to follow outcomes of  disease management and is NOT an  intervention study.
- Enrolling any patient diagnosed with RA  less than 5 years.

ANGIOTECH: PACLITAXEL
- Monthly IV infusions for 6 months
- Placebo, and 2 dose levels, with crossover
- Failed at least 1 DMARD
- Must D/C all DMARDS one mo. prior
- Prednisone < 10 mg & NSAIDS OK if stable
- No prior Taxol, or alkylating agents including cytoxan

Abgenix for RA
- Swollen knee with active synovitis
- DMARDs and steroids OK if stable
- No previous ORIF or joint prosthesis to target knee
- No allergies to murine products

SLE (LUPUS)

DUPONT DMP777  vs.  PLACEBO
- 28 day treatment; follow/up to day 50
- must be willing to D/C all pain medications for  duration of treatment, including NSAIDs, acetaminophen and narcotics
- Prednisone < 10 mg/day OK
- SLE related joint pain and soft tissue swelling
   of at least 3 mo. duration

DHEA for MALES
- SLE > 6 months; male > 18 yr. of age
- Prednisone < 30 mg
- Imuran, MTX, & Plaquenil OK if stable 6 wk.
- No elevated PSA or hx of prostate cancer
- No anabolic steroids
- No liver or end stage renal disease

OSTEOARTHRITIS

NIH DOXYCYCLINE
- female ages 45-64
- must be in upper 1/3 of weight class
- unilateral OA of 1 knee
- no prior surgery of either knee

BAYER MMP
- 3 year study for OA of the knee
- males & females ages 45+
- must be on OA medications (prns OK) to enter
- can take OA medications during trial
- no anti-depressants
