Why Bring Christ Back?

TEXT: Hebrews 8:4

INTRODUCTION:

A. PREMILLENIAL POSITION: CHRIST WILL RETURN TO REIGN ON EARTH.

B. WHAT WOULD HE DO IF HE CAME BACK?

I. HIS MISSION OF REDEMPTION IS COMPLETE ( Eph. 1:7-10 ).

A. WE NOW HAVE REDEMPTION AND FORGIVENESS( vs. 7-8 ).

1. The mystery of the Old Testament prophecies made know now( vs. 9 ) in him!

2. All things- all what things? - those things pertaining to "the mystery.", forgiveness, etc. - summed up in Christ in the "fullness of the times."( vs. 10 ).

B. vs. 9. HIS DEATH CENTRAL IN GOD’S PLAN ( 1 Pet. 1:18-20 ).

1. His mission to remove sin ( Heb. 10:1-4 ).

2. Prophesied ( vs. 5-7; Psa. 40:6-8 ).

3. Fulfilled ( vs. 8-10 ). "Come to do they will … by which will …sanctified thru the offering … once for all" ( vs. 12 ).

II. HIS REVELATION IS COMPLETE ( Eph. 3:1-7 ).

A. UNDERSTANDING THE MYSTERY POSSIBLE WHEN WE READ WHAT PAUL WROTE ( vs. 4 ).

B. MADE KNOWN THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT ( vs. 5 ).

C. SPECIFICALLY, OUR INHERITANCE IN CHRIST THROUGH THE GOSPEL ( vs. 6 ).

D. RESULT OF NT REVELATION – THE MIND OF CHRIST ( 1 Cor. 2:10-16 ).

( Jude 3; 2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Pet. 1:3 ).

III. HIS AUTHORITY IS COMPLETE ( Matt. 28:18-20 ).

A. ALL POWER OR AUTHORITY – UNTIL WHEN? – END OF THE WORLD. ( Col. 3:17 )

B. LORD AND CHRIST, THE HEAD OF CHURCH ( Acts 2:36; Col. 1:18 ).

IV. HIS KINGDOM IS COMPLETE ( Col. 1:13 ).

A. TRANSLATED – past tense. WHEN? When delivered from darkness.

B. KING OF KINGS ( 1 Tim. 6:15-16 ).

C. WE HAVE RECEIVED A KINGDOM ( Heb. 12:28 ).

V. HIS NAME IS COMPLETE ( Phil. 2:9-11 ).

A. SIGNIFIES HIS AUTHORITY ( Eph. 1:20-23; Acts 2:38 ).

B. HIS ROLE AS OUR SAVIOR ( Acts 4:12 ).

C. HIS ROLE AS AN INTERCESSOR ( John 15:16; 16:23-24; Heb. 7:25 ).

VI. HIS THRONE IS COMPLETE (Zech. 6:12-13; 2 Sam 7:12-13 ).

A. HE SITS NOW ( Acts 2:29-31; Rev. 3:21 ).

B. HE IS OUR PRIEST – NOW ( Heb. 4:14; 8:1-2; 10:20-21 ).

VII. HIS GLORY IS COMPLETE( Luke 24:26 ).

A. COMPARE "KINGDOM" ( Matt. 20:20-21 ) AND "GLORY" ( Mark 10:37 ).

B. JESUS’ PRAYER FOR GLORIFICATION – "NOW" ( John 17:5 ).

C. 1 Pet. 1:21. "Gave him glory." When? ( Rom. 1:4; Phil. 2:9-11 ).

VIII. HIS WORK ON EARTH IS COMPLETE ( John 17:1-4 ).

A. vs. 4. Jesus claimed his work finished. Finished or postponed?

B. vs. 4. Glorified the father in a failure?

C. JESUS KNEW HIS TIME WAS LIMITED ( John 9:4 ).

IX. HIS CHURCH IS COMPLETE ( Eph. 1:22-23 ).

A. Church is the fullness of him.

B. He is the Christian's fullness ( Col. 2:9-10; Eph. 1:3, 10 ).

X. THE CONQUEST OF CHRIST OVER SIN, SATAN AND DEATH IS COMPLETE.( Heb. 2:14-15 ).

A. Not possible unless the Strong Man bound ( Matt. 12:29 ).

B. Jesus did spoil Satan's good, so Satan is bound ( Col. 2:14-15 ).

C. Satan's fall ( Luke 10:18 ). As lightning – Swiftly.

D. 1 Corinthians 15:55-57.

CONCLUSION: Eph. 3:21.
