WORK!

TEXT2 Thess. 3:10

INTRODUCTION:

A.      “WHAT WILL I BE WHEN I GROW UP?”

B.      WIDE VARIETY OF OCCUPATIONS.

C.      WHAT KIND OF OCCUPATION WOULD BE RIGHT FOR ME AS A CHRISTIAN.

          DOES GOD SAY ANYTHING?

I.      THE NECESSITY OF WORK.

A.      MAN’S BEGINNING (Gen. 2:15).

          1.       Work is honorable (Gen. 3:15).

          2.       Difficulty is the curse (3:17-19).

B.      NEW TESTAMENT COMMANDS (2 Thess. 3:10-12;  1 Thess. 4:11-12;  Titus 3:8).

C.      CHARACTER OF THE “NEW MAN” (Eph. 4:24, 28;  1 Tim. 5:8).

D.      GOD’S BLESSING (Matt. 6:11).  WE MUST PLANT (1 Cor. 3:6).

II.     OUR ATTITUDE TOWARD OUR WORK.

A.      NOT TO MERELY GET RICH (Ecc. 2:18-19;  3:9-10;  5:10-17).

B.      FOR WHOM DO WE WORK? (Eph. 6:5-7;  Col. 3:22-25).

          1.       Do your best!

          2.       Be fair with your boss (Matt. 7:12).

C.      “WHAT IF I’M THE BOSS?”

          1.       You also have a master (Eph. 6:9;  Col. 4:1).

          2.       Be fair (1 Cor. 9:9;  James 5:1-5).

D.      A DAY’S WORK FOR A DAY’S PAY!

III.    SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CHOICE.

A.      IS IT HONEST? ((Eph. 4:28;  Titus 3:8;  Rev. 21:8).

B.      IS IT HONORABLE?

          1.       Honest but not honorable? YES!

          2.       Rom. 12:17;  2 Cor. 8:21.  American Standard.

          3.       Our light must shine (1 Thess. 5:22).

          4.       Eph. 5:11.  Honest but in a dishonorable association.

C.      DOES IT HINDER SPIRITUALLY?

          1.       Matt. 6:33.  God comes first.

          2.       Heb. 10:25.

                   a.       Hours that keep us away.

                   b.       Distance – Would you move to a place where there was no church?

D.      SATISFACTION.

          1.       The promise of Christ (Phil. 4:6-7).

          2.       Satisfaction in Service to God (Phil. 4:12).

          3.       Job should be what we want – But it is a means to an end!

Serving God and providing for our families is the end.  Not selfish enjoyment!

E.      IS IT YOUR GOD?

          1.       How many masters? (Matt. 6:24).

          2.       Idols (1 John 5:21;  1 Tim. 6:9-10).

          3.       What about our families?  Our worship?

          4.       Perspective (Luke 12:15-21;  9:25).

CONCLUSION:

LET’S NOT FORGET THE LORD’S WORK

(1 Cor. 15:58).
