Wait For Jehovah

TEXTPsa. 27:1, 13-14

INTRODUCTION:

A.      DAVID WAS OFTEN TROUBLED BY ENEMIES SEEKING HIS DESTRUCTION.

B.      IN ADVERSITY, DAVID WAS FEARLESS AND FAITHFUL.

C.      IN THIS PSALM DAVID SHARES THE SECRET OF HIS STRENGTH.

          1.       His relationship with God was the source of his strength.

          2.       He would then “wait for Jehovah.”

I.      JEHOVAH IS MY STRENGTH (vs. 1-3).

A.      JEHOVAH IS MY LIGHT (vs. 1)

          1.       Enlightenment - Guidance – Righteousness’ source (Psa. 43:3;  119:105, 137f, 172).

          2.       Hope in the darkness (Matt. 4:16;  Psa. 4:6;  18:27-28;  1 Pet. 1:3).

B.      JEHOVAH IS MY SALVATION (vs. 1).

          1.       Deliverance from Trouble, Sin, and Temptation..

          2.       And from our enemies (vs. 2;  Psa. 18:46-48).

C.      JEHOVAH IS THE STRENGTH OF MY LIFE (vs. 1).

          1.       I am weak, but thou art strong (Phil. 4:13).

          2.       Where is true strength against our greatest enemy (Eph. 6:10-11).

D.                                                      Whom Shall I Fear?

          1.       Confidence ( Matt. 10:28;  1 Pet. 3:13-14;  2 Cor. 2:14).

          2.       Victory! (Rom. 8:31;  1 Sam. 17:45-49).  Over Goliath!

II.     JEHOVAH IS MY DELIGHT (vs. 4-6).

A.      ONE THING – INDICATES A PREOCCUPATION – IT COMES FIRST.

B.      DWELL IN THE HOUSE OF JEHOVAH (vs. 4;  Psa. 84:1-4, 10).

          1.       Our relation as children (1 John 3:1).

          2.       A special place afforded Christians (Heb. 3:6;  2 Cor. 6:16-18).

C.      BEHOLD THE BEAUTY OF JEHOVAH (vs. 4).

          1.       His marvelous power (Psa. 118:23-24;  Jer. 32:17;  Job 42:2).

          2.       His marvelous goodness (Psa. 145:7-9;  31:19).

          3.       His wonderful majesty (Psa. 104:1;  Heb. 12:28-29)

          4.       His wonderful love (John 3:16).

D.      HE WILL EXALT HIS SERVANT (vs. 5-6).

          1.       He claims us as his own (1 John 3:1;  Eph. 2:4-7;  Heb. 11:16).

          2.       We will inherit with Jesus (Rom. 8:16-17).

III.    JEHOVAH IS MY REDEEMER (vs. 7-10).

A.      DAVID KNEW HIS NEED (vs. 7;  Psa. 32:3-4;  51:3).

          1.       Called on his name (Rom. 10:13èJoel 2:32;  Acts 22:16).

          2.       He trusts for an answer (Psa. 116:1-2;  1 Pet. 3:10-12).

B.      GOD’S ANSWER?  A CALL TO REPENTANCE & TRUST (vs. 8;  Rom. 2:4;  6:1-2).

C.      AN URGENT DESIRE FOR FORGIVENESS (vs. 9;  Psa. 32:1-2).

          1.       Sin cuts us off from God (Isa. 59:1-2;  Eph. 2:1).

          2.       Forgiveness means Restoration (Eph. 2:1;  Col. 3:9-10).

          3.       Forgiveness means Reconciliation (2 Cor. 5:18-21).  Through the Blood of Christ.

D.      GOD’S NEW COVENANT PROMISE (Heb. 8:11-12).

IV.   JEHOVAH IS MY TEACHER (vs. 11-12).

A.      GOD’S WORD IS TRUTH (John 17:17)

B.      GOD’S WORD IS RIGHT (Psa. 89:14;  119:138;  119:142, 119:172;  19:9).

C.      GOD’S WORD IS PLAIN.

          1.       It is simple (2 Cor. 11:3;  1 Cor. 1:26ff.).

          2.       It is level – easy (1 John 5:3).

D.      MANY EMEMIES (vs. 12).

          1.       Persecutors and false witnesses (Rev. 12:10).

          2.       Their purpose to cause doubt and discourage (Ezra 4:4-5;  Phil. 1:15-16;  2 Cor. 11:6).

E.                                                                                   He Leadeth Me!

 (Psa. 5:8).

CONCLUSIONWHAT HAS KEPT US FROM FALLING? (vs. 13-14).

Trust in His Goodness and Longsuffering

Wait for Jehovah: be strong, and let thy heart take courage; yea, wait thou for Jehovah.
