Pictures of Scarna & me. She is really making tremendous progress. (thanks to the clicker).
She was purchased as a four year old and sent to an Icelandic trainer. She was returned as "un-trainable".
Once I had her in the round corral I moved her around the corral then backing up when she looked at me. I kept trying to click and treat her. . . it didn't occur to me that I could use the click with the backing off until yesterday. Using the "catching game" (Ryder Draw) it took me 3 weeks until I could carefully ease up to her without her leaving, but she wouldn't take any steps toward me. I got her trust enough so that I could put the halter on if I moved very slow and backed off the second she started to get scared.
Today, using the same techniques but adding the clicker to let her know EXACTLY when she did the "right" thing, I got her to take two or three steps towards me. She also came right up to the corral fence when I went to her corral - although she backed off when I opened the gate and went in. During our session she got so comfortable that I offered her a carrot piece dropped on the ground as I backed off. She took each carrot offered, but kept her eyes on me and her body was tense. I didn't try to pet her and I didn't take her halter in with me.
