Skutla--30 yo Icelandic Horse
Owned by Larry and Stephanie Sher of Blasted Rock Farm
We've just started Elska, the only baby to be born at Blasted Rock
Farm. She's almost 4. Actually we've been "riding" her since she was
born, we just haven't gotten on her back until last week. We've been
clicking for having the saddle on and pushing it off, for touching scary
things, for taking the bit, turn on the haunches, turn on the forehand,
backing, having someone jump up beside you, having somebody stand on a
box next to you, and everything else we could think of for a couple of
years. So last week I stood on the box and got on her back. Good girl,
click. I've been just getting on bareback without the halter for a few
minutes every morning. Her reverse gear is a little better than
forward, but I don't ask for anything. Today she was a star. I got on.
She backed up a step and ran into the box I used for mounting. It
crashed over (it's full of brushes). She kept backing VERY carefully,
tumbling the box over and over under her feet until she finally worked
clear of it. No spooking, no sudden movements, BIG CLICK! The picture
shows how easy it is to get a cookie from your rider.
