Fully grown, an adult cheetah can reach speeds of more than 60 km/hour. This is used to easily outrun their prey over short distances, which is usually young or injured. It may be a gazelle, antelope or impala. They hunt by day, unlike other large cats, with their adult family members or alone. Also unlike other cats, they do not roar, but rather makes purring noices, among other vocal sounds.

The cubs have a poor survival rate, being picked off by lions or hyena packs. The ones that do survive stay with their mother till they're about 18 months old, then leaving to go off on their own.

At one point, the cheetah ranged from India to the Middle East to the most southern parts of the African Continent. Now they can only be seen to be living in remote areas of Iran, Afghanistan as well as East and Central Africa.
