General Strategies of taking the SAT test (and other tests like that)
Designers of SAT's place you under the onus of stressful time limitations
Things you must do:
- Never read the instructions
- Never do the sample questions..it wastes time
- Don't get
bogged down on any one question, but don't rush yourself.
- Rule of Thumb: Do the easiest one first.
-
Read the stem and underline key words then read possibe answers backwards crossing out disclaimers
- On reading
comprehension sections, read the questions first underlining key words and phrases (circle in the passage)
-
Practice with the idea of being focused, time oriented, and wear a watch at the exam
- The night before the test, go to a movie. Do nothing academic.
- Eat breakfast high in carbohydrates
like orange juice, fruit, Nutragrain Bars, etc. NO SUGAR (Remember: sugar makes you sleeeeepy)
- Arrive at least
30 minutes before the test. Pick a seat that is very comfy and fits your standards
- Take 2 or 3 sharpened #2 pencils.
They might not have any.
- During break: Eat a snack..but NO SUGAR
- When you don't know the right answer,
look for the wrong ones instead (c, d, and e are usually wrong)
- When you find a wrong choice, eliminate it.
- Since you
bought your test book, it's ok to use it as scratch paper..they shred it up anyways.
- Guess! There is no penalty.
- Leaving a question
blank costs almost as many points as an incorrect answer.
- Know the design for easy, medium, and hard questions.
The more you get into the test, the harder it gets.
- Don't change answers unless you're absolutely sure
These are the simple and helpful steps that you can use for you get to get by the SAT's as well as other tests. Don't worry,
you'll do fine if you trust yourself and follow these simple steps. (BTW: I got these hints form a teacher at school).
