TRL: November 1999

November 1999

November was cool cause it was the first time we saw a boy band’s video (Music of My Heart) retire out of the #1 spot. How amazing. That’s the big news for this month. Also, one video I really hated during this month was Lou Bega’s "Mambo #5." The next paragraph sorta talks about how I treated his video and some others.

I’m gonna admit right here and now that some of my comments during this month are SO EXTREMELY stupid. I don’t know what I was thinking. Some are good (hopefully funny), but some are just so stupid that it’s amazing. Oh well. I could just delete them, but that wouldn’t be right. You can read them if you want to, but you’ve been warned. =) Enjoy(?):

7. "Learn to Fly" by Foo Fighters - Begging really does work (…unless the show is rigged?)
6. "Heartbreaker" by Mariah Carey - What’s up with the goo at the bottom of the fight box thing? Really odd.
5. "(You Drive Me) Crazy" by Britney Spears - Fell back to make room for the rising Blink!
4. "All the Small Things" by Blink 182 - Video is so cool concert was so good! (Did they go up cause of me?)
3. "N 2 Gether Now" by Limp Bizkit and Method Man
2. "Music of My Heart" by 'N Sync and Gloria Estefan - Exciting news about this video tomorrow. I taking that to mean that they are being retired.

Notes:
- Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes visit
- Foo Fighters debut
- Nas visits
- World premiere Nas video. First ever hip-hop video in 3D. I didn’t have glasses. Write and tell me if it was cool, deal?
- SN Music: Dre TV

November 5, 1999 Friday
10. "Heartbreaker" by Mariah Carey - Falling, falling, falling. Maybe cause they play the bad remix?
9. "Bugaboo" by Destiny’s Child - They never fail to pick the most interesting outfits to wear.
8. "Guerrilla Radio" by Rage Against the Machine
7. "Role Model" by Eminem - I’m confused as to how these random videos just show up on the countdown lately. It used to be uniform—the same videos everyday.
6. "Mambo #5" by Lou Bega
5. "(You Drive Me) Crazy" by Britney Spears
4. "All the Small Things" by Blink 182 - My friend absolutely loves it when Tom winks at the beginning. It’s so cute!
3. "N 2 Gether Now" by Limp Bizkit and Method Man - "Rearranged" is getting the shaft. This system is not fair for both videos.
2. "Music of My Heart" by 'N Sync and Gloria Estefan
1. "Larger Than Life" by Backstreet Boys - Lyric of the day: "Wishin’ I could thank you in different way, c’mon"
Notes:

November 08, 1999 Monday
10. "Bugaboo" by Destiny’s Child
9. "Will 2K" by Will Smith - Still not liking the way he took advantage of the overused Millennium concept...
8. "Mambo #5" by Lou Bega - Have I exhausted my privilege to make fun of this video? Don't worry, I'll stop. Cause it doesn't interest me anymore.
7. "Heartbreaker" by Mariah Carey
6. "Guerrilla Radio" by Rage Against the Machine
5. "(You Drive Me) Crazy" by Britney Spears
4. "N 2 Gether Now" by Limp Bizkit and Method Man - I'm missing "Rearranged"!
3. "All the Small Things" by Blink 182 - Aaaah, Tom and Mark. I was like FIVE FEET from you...
2. "Music of My Heart" by ‘N Sync and Gloria Estefan - The name of the song and the title of the movie don't match. Oh well, not like the movie is doing so well anyway.
1. "Larger Than Life" by Backstreet Boys - Dave needs somebody to explain the video to him. Funny, cause so do I...
Notes:
- Dave Holmes guest hosts. Apparently Carson is away working for the Sports & Music Festival 3D scheduled for Saturday. However, he is gone a lot. Way too much.
- Blink 182: first time in top three!
- Announced: ‘N Sync’s 61st day. Oh, how excited am I.

November 09, 1999
10. "Mambo #5" by Lou Bega
9. "Bugaboo" by Destiny’s Child - I really have nothing to say about this video, ever. Nothing comes to me.
8. "Guerrilla Radio" by Rage Against the Machine - Messages accompanying videos is always significant, rather than just mindless, shallow ideas. (see #s 1 and 2 especially)
7. "Heartbreaker" by Mariah Carey
6. "N 2 Gether Now" by Limp Bizkit and Method Man - Hopefully this won’t continue to fall. If pop stars can maintain high percentages of votes from one fan group, then so can alternative fans. Limp and Korn can share, I’m sure.
5. "(You Drive Me) Crazy" by Britney Spears
4. "All the Small Things" by Blink 182 - Did you see them introduce the video? They are so funny and cute. It’s unbelievable. I went to their concert!
3. "Falling Away From Me" by Korn - I love how artists tie back to their other videos in new ones. It’s the best a idea.
2. "Music of My Heart" by 'N Sync and Gloria Estefan - I really don’t mind seeing this video, cause I know it’ll be gone SO soon!
1. "Larger Than Life" by Backstreet Boys - Kevin named Sexiest Pop Star in People! (Good call.)
Notes:
- Dave Holmes guests hosts again (will for the entire week)
- Mandy Moore visits. Opened for BSB in concert. Says that BSB fans are more diverse than those of ‘N Sync.
- Korn debuts. How exciting is this! And they’re already at the old "Korn Spot." Let’s just hope we won’t have history repeating itself with this video.
- World premiere Guns ‘N Roses video. Whoa…

November 10, 1999 Wednesday
10. "Bugaboo" by Destiny's Child - What’s up with the marching band/flag twirler scenes? The plot in this video is so confusing.
9. "Will 2K" by Will Smith
8. "Candy" by Mandy Moore - Proving yet again that the mere presence of an artist means that they’ll enter the countdown. However, that concept really shouldn’t apply to bad songs like this one.
7. "Heartbreaker" by Mariah Carey
6. "All the Small Things" by Blink 182
5. "Falling Away From Me" by Korn - Lyrics are so far unable to be discerned.
4. "N 2 Gether Now" by Limp Bizkit and Method Man - Pauly Shore is really annoying. I’ve been trying to used to his part, but I can’t stand it.
3. "(You Drive Me) Crazy" by Britney Spears - Careful, Britney, Mandy Moore is trying to copy your success (like that would happen).
2. "Music of My Heart" by 'N Sync and Gloria Estefan - Could this… possibly… maybe… hopefully… retire out of the #1 spot? *cross your fingers!*
1. "Larger Than Life" by Backstreet Boys - They are so reliable. I love it.
Notes:
- Usher guest hosts
- Master P visits
- Mandy Moore debuts
- Cast of The Real World visits (only Teck, Ruthie, Kaia, Justin)
- Thought of the day: I’m noticing that we are Mambo-free today. Has the day finally come? This is seriously surprising.

November 11, 1999 Thursday
Preamble: Today truly is one of the best days of my life. I was expecting it to be good, due to other things going on and the fact that my magazine said the 11th would be a lucky day, but I didn’t realize how awesome it would turn out to be. Do me a favor and scroll down this page to view today’s results. Are you seeing that group called ‘N Sync? Do you see the number they landed at? That’s right, #2. But here’s the kicker: it’s on the day they retire. Oh man, what a great day.
10. "Back That Thing Up" by Juvenile
9. "Mambo #5" by Lou Bega - Aw, it came back…
8. "Bugaboo" by Destiny's Child
7. "Heartbreaker" by Mariah Carey
6. "All the Small Things" by Blink 182 - Watching this video makes me recall a scene where I was 5 FEET FROM TOM! (Their concert was so good!)
5. "(You Drive Me) Crazy" by Britney Spears - Lyric of the day: "I’m so excited" (See #2)
4. "N 2 Gether Now" by Limp Bizkit and Method Man
3. "Falling Away From Me" by Korn - I love how artists link their new videos to their old ones.
2. "Music of My Heart" by 'N Sync and Gloria Estefan - My excitement cannot be explained with words. Vital statistics and ecstatic screaming tell it all.
1. "Larger Than Life" by Backstreet Boys - "They’re unstoppable!"
Notes:
- Dave Holmes guest hosts
- Natalie Portman visits
- ‘N Sync and Gloria Estefan’s video retired (65th day)

- Arnold Schwarzenegger visits
- Rob Zombie visits
- Korn visits

November 15, 1999 Monday
10. "Will 2K" by Will Smith
9. "Mambo #5" by Lou Bega - There is no longer any regularity to when this is on the countdown, and that’s so great!
8. "Bugaboo" by Destiny's Child
7. "Back That Thing Up" by Juvenile
6. "Heartbreaker" by Mariah Carey - DaBrat’s fur is still unsettling.
5. "N 2 Gether Now" by Limp Bizkit and Method Man - Lyric of the day [especially to those who don’t like my site =) ]: "Shut the f*** up."
4. "All the Small Things" by Blink 182 - Hey, this video is serious.
3. "(You Drive Me) Crazy" by Britney Spears
2. "Falling Away From Me" by Korn - I see that they are at #2, a very familiar spot. Hopefully no travesty will result.
1. "Larger Than Life" by Backstreet Boys - Brian is so adorable!
Notes:
- Carson is back!
- Christina Ricci visits
- Blink 182 visits. These guys crack me up. They are seriously so funny! Aaah, I so fondly remember their concert…
- World premiere Filter video

November 16, 1999 Tuesday
10. "Mambo #5" by Lou Bega - Barely hanging on to the puny tree before you fall off the cliff, eh Lou?
9. "Candy" by Mandy Moore - WTF is this doing on here? I’m sorry, but I mean seriously, what’s up with this?
8. "Bugaboo" by Destiny's Child
7. "Back That Thing Up" by Juvenile - The artists name perfectly describes the song itself.
6. "Heartbreaker" by Mariah Carey
5. "N 2 Gether Now" by Limp Bizkit and Method Man - I love their overdone facial expressions—it’s hilarious.
4. "(You Drive Me) Crazy" by Britney Spears
3. "All the Small Things" by Blink 182 - Moved up cause they were here yesterday! They are so awesome!
2. "Falling Away From Me" by Korn - The actress in the video was on MTV’s show Undressed. (That show was so awesome.)
1. "Larger Than Life" by Backstreet Boys
Notes:
- Bond car trivia contest continues. Geez, this takes a long time…
- Will Smith phones
- Puff Daddy visits
- World premiere Puff Daddy featuring Mario Winans video: "My Best Friend"
- Korn visits

November 17, 1999 Wednesday
10. "Back That Thing Up" by Juvenile
9. "Falls Apart" by Sugar Ray - This song is so good! I think it got on cause of my Video Poll. (J/K like I have that much influence.)
8. "Mambo #5" by Lou Bega - Fact of the day: Lou’s from Germany. (You learn so much from my lovely website…)
7. "Candy" by Mandy Moore - Dave comments: "It upsets me how much I love that song."

5. "(You Drive Me) Crazy" by Britney Spears - She’s almost gone! How sad!
4. "N 2 Gether Now" by Limp Bizkit and Method Man
3. "All the Small Things" by Blink 182 - So good…
2. "Larger Than Life" by Backstreet Boys - 15 day streak ended! They can withstand ‘N Sync’s retirement, but not Korn’s visit. (Cause ‘N Sync is weak!)
1. "Falling Away From Me" by Korn - All this proof that musicians’ appearances on TRL makes their votes rise is getting kind of suspicious.* But I’m so happy for Korn.
Notes:
- Dave Holmes guest hosts. WTF, where is Carson? TRL is supposed to be Carson’s show. But he’s never there.
- Bond car contest continued. You know you’re a true TRL watcher when you get all the answers right! Go me!
- Announced: Britney Spears’ 61st day
- 311 visits. *If they’re on the countdown tomorrow, I don’t know what I’ll think. In response to 311 saying "We wrote all our own stuff," Dave says, "Yeah, that’s pretty unusual for this show." He’s insulting so many people…
- World premiere R.E.M. video

8. "Guerrilla Radio" by Rage Against the Machine
7. "Back That Thing Up" by Juvenile - Oh how this song sucks.
6. "Heartbreaker" by Mariah Carey - This has got to be getting close to retirement.
5. "N 2 Gether Now" by Limp Bizkit and Method Man - I wish more of Limp Bizkit, instead of just Fred Durst, would be shown in this video.
4. "All the Small Things" by Blink 182 - Favorite parts: Mark eats the flower. That’s classic.
3. "(You Drive Me) Crazy" by Britney Spears - Carson: "The dance-off scene is a nice substitute for a fight."
2. "Larger Than Life" by Backstreet Boys - I’m actually really surprised that this has stayed here for so long.
1. "Falling Away From Me" by Korn - No more TRL Travesty!
Notes:
- Dave Holmes guest hosts. …yet again.
- Director Tim Burton visits. They really give a lot of attention to certain movies, like this one and only Sleepy Hollow.
- Finale of Bond car contest
- Denise Richards visits

November 22, 1999 Monday
10. "Take A Picture" by Filter - A uniquely mellow Filter song.
9. "Guerrilla Radio" by Rage Against the Machine

7. "Bugaboo" by Destiny's Child

5. "All the Small Things" by Blink 182 - "Always, I know, you’ll be at my show" — Yep, I was!
4. "N 2 Gether Now" by Limp Bizkit and Method Man

2. "Larger Than Life" by Backstreet Boys - Do you actually know how much this surprises me?

- Jessica Simpson visits. Another Britney, Christina...
- World Premiere Metallica video: "No Leaf Clover"

November 23, 1999 Tuesday
10. "I Wanna Love You Forever" by Jessica Simpson - Britney leaves today, Christina premieres, Mandy debuted last week, and now we got Jessica. It’s like they’re everywhere.
9. "Bugaboo" by Destiny’s Child - The marching/cheerleading thing is totally confusing and disturbing. It’s so odd and the outfits are so… not pretty.
8. "Mambo #5" by Lou Bega
7. "Guerrilla Radio" by Rage Against the Machine - The way videos debut, stay on for a few days, go off for a few, and then get back on is seriously the beauty of this show.
6. "Heartbreaker" by Mariah Carey - According to the beginning of the video Mariah is "imitated, but never duplicated"
5. "N 2 Gether Now" by Limp Bizkit and Method Man - I love the little actions within this video, like Method Man shaping and pruning the plant.
4. "All the Small Things" by Blink 182
3. "Falling Away From Me" by Korn - Wow, this took a plunge. But, it spent a very respectable amount of time at #1.
2. "(You Drive Me) Crazy" by Britney Spears - Retired today; check out the vital statistics. And, here’s a second little visual tribute to the video:

1. "Larger Than Life" by Backstreet Boys - I don’t mean to "mix" aspects of my website, but I’m kinda glad that this is a back at #1. But I love the variety we got up here, though.
Notes:
- Jessica Simpson debuts cause she visited yesterday!
- Niki Taylor visits
- Model Mission contestants visit
- Stephan Jenkins from Third Eye Blind visits and co-hosts
- Britney Spears’ video retired today (65th day). Carson, in his review of this video’s history, said that she only reached #1 once. However, my records indicate that she really reached it twice, on September 7 and on September 29. I can’t believe TRL can make a mistake like that.
- World premiere Christina Aguilera video: "What A Girl Wants" I actually hope this gets on the countdown, cause I got a lot of comments for this one…

November 24, 1999 Wednesday
10. "Will 2K" by Will Smith - The 1920s swing scene is really cool.
9. "Mambo #5" by Lou Bega
8. "Bugaboo" by Destiny's Child - Why does Wyclef even bother with appearing in this video? All he does is blow the whistle, and he’s done.
7. "Role Model" by Eminem - Back! (After a loooong time)
6. "Guerrilla Radio" by Rage Against the Machine - The instrumental intro to this song is way too long.
5. "Heartbreaker" by Mariah Carey - The superior, smug look on the real Mariah’s face during the "fight" scene is amazingly annoying.
4. "All the Small Things" by Blink 182
3. "N 2 Gether Now" by Limp Bizkit and Method Man - Pauly Shore totally lessens the value of this video.
2. "Falling Away From Me" by Korn - Why does the girl have Korn in a box?
1. "Larger Than Life" by Backstreet Boys - Nick’s dancing is basically embarrassing and disgusting to watch.
Notes:
- Models and Model Mission Finalists visit
