Did you know?
Four videos were not only on this countdown, but on the Top 99 of ’99 too:
"From the Bottom of My Broken Heart" by Britney Spears (#87)
"Candy" by Mandy Moore (#64)
"What A Girl Wants" by Christina Aguilera (#49)
"Back That Thing Up" by Juvenile (#31)

Snubs
Okay, so it must be hard to pick videos to be on the countdown. I mean, it MUST be… just look at what they left off:
"Falling Away From Me" by Korn – never mind that it RETIRED; it was on Top 99 of last year, though
"Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche)" by 98º – why they played “My Everything” instead of this is beyond me. # of days on the countdown: 15 more than My Everything
"Only God Knows Why" by Kid Rock – Again, it’s retired. But, it was on the Top 99 of ’99, so it must be okay
"I Turn to You" by Christina Aguilera
"Somebody Someone" by Korn
"Case of the Ex" by Mya

And now, commentary:
That last section is nice headway into this section. All those videos, with their numerous amount of days on the countdown were beaten by “Party Up,” “Big Pimpin’,” and “Who Let the Dogs Out?”… all on for less than 15 days. It’s also amazing that videos that are RETIRED are placed way behind videos that were on sporadically and, let’s say, 26 times in the year (Back That Thing Up at number NINE?!). And not only “Lucky,” but “The Real Slim Shady” too did better than “Oops!” In fact, most of the videos in the top 15 did better than that Britney video (exceptions: Rollin', Forgot About Dre, Back That Thing Up).

I think TRL favors diversity (you know, because the top 10 could easily have been half-filled with boy bands) over real results. Understandable. I just wish they would give the CRITERIA they used to pick the order. Because here I assumed that it would be based on how videos were voted in throughout the year, and that obviously wasn’t it.

The special itself was entertaining. Not exactly for the entire four hours, but they did a good job.

One last thing… do they ever change the requests that run at the bottom? Because “Sarah, AZ” made a request on “Party Up” and… that was me. Except for the last three words, that is, I swear I wrote that when I voted for Best Rap Video of the year. Hmmm…
