'Mack Daddy" Ron Starr
Height 5'8"
Weight 270 lbs
Age 29
Hometown - Philadelphia, PA/Atlantic City,
Years Pro - 4
Originally began his career in 1991at the TriState Wrestling Alliance's Ringmasters Wrestling Academy - a school that launched the careers of such mat stalwarts as JT Smith, The Sandman, CN Redd, Jimmy Jannetty, Ramblin' Rich Meyers and The Rockin' Rebel. He was sidelined however by a nagging, recurrent football injury to his ankle (torn, distressed ligaments and tendonitis). Later resurfaced in 1995 in the now defunct NWC(Northern Wrestling Championship) and began applying his trade as "the Almighty Hammer" Ron Starr. Came close to defeating Battlestarr several times for the NWC US heavyweight championship. In 1996 NWC split and became two seperate factions; TriCounty Wrestling(TCW) and Main Event Championship Wrestling(MECW). Ron continued to wrestle there as well as several other small independents in the tri-state area;Keystone Wrestling Alliance(KWA), Eastern Wrestling Associaton(EWA-NJ)Outlaw Wrestling Confederation(OWC), as well as the Intercity Wrestling Alliance(IWA) who regularly co-promoted shows with MECW rival TCW. Also began teaming regularly with a young Flash Wheeler as the tag team/wrestling fraternity Omega Phi Slam (WFS)found success, winning the Keystone Cup tag tournament, defeating the Young Warriors, Jett and Rock in the tourney final. They came close to defeating Havoc Inc. (Hollywood and O-Dogg) for the MECW tag belts and Mass Destruction(Crusher and Bouncer) for the EWA tag team titles. Both Starr and Wheeler entered the OWC heavweight Championship tournament, but were both elilmnated in the first round( Flash by Mr. E by pinfall and Ron by Rage[of TCW's Rage and Thunder] by submission. The first and to that date the only time in his professional career that he had ever lost a match by giving up. Ron was left disheartened, somewhat by this, because OWC was a "shootwrestling" organization, a style similar to the freestyle wrestling that he excelled in during his high school years. He was all public 1986 & 1987 in his weight class and entered the Mid Atlantic Regionals(MART) invitational both years. He made it to the finals both times, against Andrew Oglesby of Deveraux High School, Seacaucus, NJ, taking 2nd in '86 and defeating Oglesby in '87. Starr was a multisport athlete in school, lettering in soccer, baseball and volleyball at Parkway Program High School( the Alma Mater of the Grandy Award winning Nicky Suave). Starr also loved football but his school did not have a program. He played local club and semipro football with the Northwest Raiders and Northwest Giants and walked on as a center/noseguard for the University of Evansville(IN)-Lockyear College Pioneers.
Omega Phi Slam soon found themselves on the losing end of a bitter feud with the Bad Boyz(K-Os and Mayhem). After a long series of brutal fraternity paddle matches, Omega Phi Slam parted ways and sought seperate directions for their careers. Flash reunited(temporarily) with long lost older brother Flexx while Starr devoted himself full time to the MECW, reconciled his differences with the Bad Boyz and formed the West Side Playaz Clique and began a lengthy run of domination as top fan favorites in the North Philadelphia based promotion. Sought matches against and defeated Rolling Thunder for the MECW TV title. Feueded with Hugo DeMarco's stable of Thunder, Jason the 13th and Kwame the Mandingo Warrior. (Jason and Kwame comprised the formidable tag team, Bad Dreams with whom Starr and Wheeler had their share of problems as well) Also feuded with O-Dogg and The Latin Heartthrob. Later found out that Hollywood was in fact his estranged older brother, Ricci Starr. Added Flexx Wheeler to the West Side Playaz after witnessing his match against brother Flash at MECW's Ultimate Sensation '97. Association was short lived, though.
After saving Flash and Billy Reil from an attack following the conclusion of a 4 way cruiserweight match(in which Reil was victorious), by sore losers Nick Berk and Trent Acid, the WSP offered Flash membership. Flexx flatly refused Ron Starr's offer. He then renounced his own membership, claiming he was his own man and a locker room clearing melee' ensued, leaving Ron and Flexx on opposite sides of a feud with no end in sight. This was the Final Countdown '97 extravaganza. Lost the TV title to Thunder after De Marco threw a chain into the ring, which Thunder(at this time known as Big Mel Maximum) used to score the pin. Also rekindled feud with MECW US champion, Battlestarr. Defeated Battlestarr in a non-title contest at the March 15th "Ides Of March" show in Chester and was set to face him the following week at the Whitehall Commons in the Frankford section of Philadelphia. Battlestarr did not show and the title was awarded to Ron by forfeit. Ron Starr opted, however to forfeit the US title in lieu of a rematch with Thunder on April 11, 1997 at Spring Blast:Big Ciy Rumble at the Mantua Center. Defeated Thunder cleanly but was attacked by the Wheeler family(Flexx, Flash and cousin DeVante(O-Dogg). Recruited up and coming rookie Shallah Kraze as newest member of the West Side Playaz and briefly feuded with the North Philly Hit Squad (who included a youngster namd Blaze, who would be later called, first Mike E. Raw and now "The HeartThrobKid"Hunk Heiser). Defeated Karate Kid to unify the MECW and NWCW( New World Championship Wrestling) TV belts. Formed WildStarrs tag team with brother Ricci(who was MECW champion at the time) and defeated tag team champions Urban Circuit for the belts. Vacated titles the next day. A tournament was held at the next TV tapings and West Side Playaz stablemates, the Bad Boyz defeated Team Kamikaze(aka The Puerto Rican Swat Team) in the finals. O-Dogg defeated Rock and Paizone in a three way match to become the US champion. In the main event of Thunder in The East:To Heaven Through Hell, the WildStarrs defeated Emerald Dawn(Warlock and Phantasm) in a "heaven or hell" death match(ladders, barbed wire, tables with lightbulbs set on fire). safety violations and the fact that the match was not sanctioned by any governing sports body, soon saw the closure and disbanding of the MECW. Starr so found himself back in the OWC(which at this point had adopted a traditional rules approach to the sport). He wrestled three matches for the OWC but soon left for the burgeoning Grande Wrestling Alliance(GWA) citing differences with OWC heads Major Chaos and Dennis Gabriel. Shortly thereafter disbanded the West Side Playaz. Entered the GWA and immediately resumed his feud with longtime nemesis, Rolling Thunder. Lost Felton Arena debut to Thunder. Sneak attacked him following the match prompting GWA officials to sanction the Ist GWA Lumberjack Strap Death Match at "All Hell's Breaking Loose '97" Defeated Thunder in a wild brawl that saw 15 participants either hospitalized or seeking medical treatment. Starr was rising fast in the GWA. Fans hatred of him paralleled that of the CMB or Cash Money Brothers(a stable comprised of former West Side Playaz cronies Flexx Wheeler and the Bad Boyz and O-Dogg). Came up against a brick wall in the form of 7' 300lb. Jake Lawless. Was powerbombed by Lawless after being dominated in a match at October 3rd's Blue Horizon debut "Battle For All The Belts" The impact sent Ron through the center of the ring, stunning all in attendance. Lawless went on to win the GWA championship on November 15th. Ron's career however went on a downward slide, dropping matches to Lawless and hated rival Flash Wheeler, due to interference of Flash's estranged brother, Flexx. Because of a stipulation of the match, was forced to wear a diaper until winning another match. Gained a small measure of revenge by taking control of the CMB when Starr and Kwame' the Mandingo Warrior along with the West Side Bad Boyz ousted former leader Flexx Wheeler and sidekick O-Dogg.
1998 saw the begining of a better year for Ron Starr. Acquired the services of 'the Las Vegas Playboy, 'Lucky' Larry Fontaine as his permanent manager. Won his bracket in the GWA TV
Championship tournament and headed for a title showdown against Rolling Thunder at January 17th's "War Is Declared". Lost in controversial fashion when Flexx and the newly formed Team Supreme(Flexx, Flash, O-Dogg and new partner Atlas Rivera) ran into the ring and knocked out Ron Starr. Vowed bloody revenge against Team Supreme and challenged Rolling Thunder to a rematch for the TV title at March 7th's "All Hell's Breaking Loose '98" in a match he knew all too well; a lumberjack strap death match. Was defeated by Mecca in a tune up match in Norristown PA after interferrence by K-Os backfired. The CMB destroyed Mecca, anyway.
On March 7th, the CMB set out to prove that they were a force to be reckoned with. Destroying first, The Himalaya Playaz and Mecca, then tag team champions Atlas Rivera and O-Dogg and finally American Champion, Flexx Wheeler. The road seemed straight forward for Ron to coast into his first major championship in two years. The lumberjack match lived up to the reputation of the first one, with wild action everywhere you looked. The CMB's plans weren't the best laid, however as Team Supreme ran in anyway, against doctors orders and tried to clean house. It would be to no avail however, as Ron Starr defeated Rolling Thunder with the "styledriver" and claimed the GWA World TV Championship.
Tean Supreme did not take this well at all and attacked the CMB. Flash Wheeler had left the GWA and it seemed as if Team Supreme was outnumbered until Psyclone(formerly of The Puerto Rican Swat Team) made his return to the ring from a broken neck, courtesy of the original CMB. The stage was set for Caged Carnage '98, a WarGames styled cage match, with the CMB on one side and the new Team Supreme(aka the Latin American Connection) on the other. The match was marred in controversy as Koko B. Ware interferred in the match and all the remaining members of the CMB with the exception of Ron Starr were thrown out of the cage. The cage door was locked and Ron was beaten with chairs and rammed into the cage repeatedly until he was forced to quit.
With that disappointing loss behind him, Ron went on an impressive winning streak defeating GWA mainstays such as the Wolfman, Mike E. Raw, Mecca and Psyclone. Became embroiled in a long feud with Psyclone. To this day one of the toughest he has ever been in. Adopted the guise of Reverend Ron Starr. Despite losing a non-title match at the GWA anniversary show in Ardmore, PA, dominated the feud with Psyclone. Defeated Atlas Rivera by DQ at the Sports Super Center debut show.
Became involved in the most dangerous feud of his career in the form of Middknight and the ThrillKillKult.
Middknight had earned his way to a TV title shot and was
determined to make an impact one way or another. Ron, Lucky
Larry and new church member "Ice Cold" Billy Austin came in to
the match confident and seemed to dominate the smaller
Middknight. At a critical point in the match, the Reverend,
frustrated with the constant interference of the Kult, turned
his back on Middknight to confront a heckler. When he turned
back, he was burned by a fireball! Remained out of action until
the October 30th "Mischief Night Mayhem" show. Dominated
Middknight in the match and went on further to exact revenge by
kidnapping Darrah, Middknight's valet/paramour. Also cost Kult
member Jason Vein his match against Hellraiser. Middknight, not
one to be one-upped raised the ante. The next week Ron was set
to defend the World TV belt against undefeated, former
stablemate, Kwame the Mandingo Warrior. It was a match Ron
seemed destined to win because Kwame had not been truly tested
against someone who could wrestle and brawl right along with
him. Middknight had wrestled previously and seemed to have
disappeared from the building. Ron came out with Deacon Lucky
Larry and full time "minister of defense" Mr. Clyde and seemed
overly confident, proclaiming all he needed was five minutes to
destroy the myth of the Mandingo Warrior. As the match
progressed, however, Ron's confidence paid off as he dominated
the hulking Mandingo Warrior. After a bonecrushing corner to
corner bulldog, Ron mounted the ropes to deliver the
coup-de-grace, his patented "heaven sent" elbow drop. Unknown
to him as he covered the prone Kwame, Jason Vein and Diablos
Macabre attacked Mr. Clyde and Lucky Larry, distracting referee
Brian Logan. While he attempted to get the referee's attention,
Middknight, disguised as a fan, slid into the ring and blasted
Ron Starr with a chair, leaving him prone for a recovering
Kwame. Kwame held Ron up in his Mandingo Spear Piledeiver and
three seconds later, it was all academic. Kwame had defeated Ron
and became the new champion. Middknight's interference left Ron
incensed! Challenged Middknight to a "heaven or hell" death
match. Unlike the one previous in his career, this was a more
toned down version that was sanctioned by the GWA. Wrestled
tune up matches along with Mr. Clyde against Big Bob Steele and
Psyclone. Pinned Bob Steele(who was the reigning GWA World
Champion) at the Carousel House "Friday The 13 th" spectacular.
The next night at the Tabor Rams YO Center faced Middknight and
Diablos Macabre. Made an impressive showing but were hung by the
Kult. This set the stage for December 5th. Both Ron and
Middknight came into the match with guns blazing and something
to prove. Ron sought extra insurance by insisting that Kult
lackey "Prancing" Richie Stevens be barred from ringside and
Darrah and Diablos Macabre be handcuffed to a ring post.
Middknight demanded the same treatment for Lucky Larry and Mr.
Clyde and the match was underway. It lived up to expectation as
they battled from one end of the Super Center to the other
employing chairs, tables, barbed wire, frying pans, thumbtacks
and even fire (via Middknight's classic "flaming clothesline"),
but in the end the trickery and deceit of the ThrillKill Kult
paid off as Kult member Jason Vein disguised as security,
sneaked into the arena, while Richie Stevens distracted the
referee, and freed Darrah and Diablos allowing them to get
Middknight into the ring and avoid a double countout (both Ron
and Middknight were out cold after a senton splash through a
table).
