Interview With Wifebeater (Chris Hero)

Seggal: What federations do you compete in?
Wifebeater: I wrestle for quite a few organizations in the Ohio/Indiana area, and I'm starting to branch out. Some of the promotions are Unified Championship Wrestling in Dayton, Ohio Hard Core Wrestling in Cleveland, Ohio. I wrestle for two different IWA's, one in Indianapolis, and one in Columbus, Ohio. And I've also wrestled for the OCWA.

Seggal: Do you think your gimmick encourages domestic violence?
Wifebeater: No, actually. I feel that "The Wife Beater" encourages hard work, determination, and going out there and taking what you want.

Seggal: But why the name The Wife Beater?
Wifebeater: I mean, the way I live my life doesn't pertain to others. The Wife Beater is a very controversial name. It's a hard name to forget, and thats what I'm trying to do...make a name for myself

Seggal: What is your finisher
Wifebeater: My finisher is "Domestic Violence" a modified, reverse blockbuster. Also used by IWA/HWA star Shark Boy, and Masato Tanaka of FMW and ECW fame.

Seggal: Have you worked with any bigger names?
Wifebeater: Yes, I've had the pleasure of working on the same shows with a few big names such as The Great Samu, Madman Pondo, Kamala Jr and Maxx Payne. Each show for me serves as a new learning experience

Seggal: How long have you been wrestling?
Wifebeater: I'm still in my first year in the "biz", as many refer to it.

Seggal: Do you get a hard time for being a rookie?
Wifebeater: Absolutely, but it's all a part of paying dues. At my age, I've luckily been able to turn the heads of a lot of guys and get their respect through my in and out ring actions

Seggal: Have you been getting pops?
Wifebeater: Actually yes, I'm starting to get quite a following in my local shows, and some of my awe-inspiring manuevers have the crowd on their feet.

Seggal: What moves would those be?
Wifebeater: I have a variety of flashy moves such as flipping clotheslines, high dropkicks, frogsplashes but some of my more popular moves are my moonsaults. I have an in-ring springboard moonsault, a spectacular asai moonsault from the top out onto the front row of the crowd.

Seggal: Do you think the Big Leagues will ever come calling?
Wifebeater: Actually, I can always hope and dream. I would love to make a living out of this business, but I just have to work hard and improve every single day.

Seggal: Which Promotion would you prefer?
Wifebeater: Right now I prefer the WWF and ECW, but beggars can't be choosers. I would take whatever would be the best opportunity for me.

Seggal: Would you work in Japan?
Wifebeater: Absolutely. One of the guys I look up to Maxx Payne, was fortunate to start out overseas. I think it would be an excellent experience.

Seggal: How about Catch wrestling, is that a possibility?
Wifebeater: You never know brother, if the opportunity would present itself, I just might.

Seggal: Do indy wrestlers get entrance themes?
Wifebeater: It all depends, some guys have their own music made, but others use all kinds of music.

Seggal: Who do you think is the best wrestler currently competing in the Indys?
Wifebeater: I don't think there is a best wrestler. There are several, several hard working guys out there just waiting for that break. And then you have the veterans that have been in the biz forever.

Seggal: Is Reckless Youth over rated?
Wifebeater: I couldn't tell you. I mean he's a great worker, and how overrated can you be if you have have a WWF dark match? That's the big time brother.

Seggal: Will he be an impact player one day?
Wifebeater: I think so, everyone has to work their way up. He's probably the most well known indy on the circuit today.

Seggal: Several guys like Don Montoya, Christian York and Lance Diamond are recognizable but why don't they get a chance?
Wifebeater: It's not that they don't get a chance, I just don't think the time is right. Look at Steve Corino and Dawn Marie for instance.

Seggal: What do you mean?
Wifebeater: Well, they came from the same place and they're currently with ECW. I guess they just have to wait for their break.

Seggal: Was Al Snow wrong in no-selling those chair shots?
Wifebeater: Well I can see it from both angles. On one hand, it goes with his crazy, hardcore gimmick but on the other hard, it's gonna make someone who goes down after one chairshot, look dumb.

Seggal: What is your relation to Snow?
Wifebeater: Well a guy that I've worked quite a few matches with is Al Snow's younger brother "Suicide Machine" Logan Caine. He's a great and young talent. Currently he holds an NWA Lightweight belt, and defended it successfully against Wolfie D, a few weeks ago.

Seggal: Have you faced him?
Wifebeater: Every time I step into the ring with Logan, we push each other to the limits. Ive defended my UCW Television title against him twice in the past month.

Seggal: When promotion can we see a Caine-Wifebeater match?
Wifebeater: Actually there is a big HCW(Hard Core Wrestling) championship tournament, May 8th in Cleveland. We will both be in the tournament, and with our skills, it's almost definite that somewhere in the night, we'll come face to face.

Seggal: Where in cleveland?
Wifebeater: All the information can be found at http://www.users.uswest.net/~wshields1/hcwpage.htm

Seggal: In closing, are there any final comments you would like to make to your fans?
Wifebeater: Just that there is a great May 8th card, you'll see Ian Rotten square off against MadMan Pondo in a supreme hardcore match, and also Chainz will take on The Great Samu. Ah....to my fans. Keep coming to the shows and supporting all of your favorite indys.

Seggal: On behalf of SUPERPLEX thanks for your time.
Wifebeater: It's not as easy as one would think, and dont judge me or any other professional wrestler until you've walked a mile in my boots. Thanks.
