Usually, Mother's Day is associated with flowers and delicate, pretty things, but this, or something like it, is often closer to reality. I think it’s the contradiction that’s so funny. I wanted to make a mother having about the worst Mother’s Day you could think of. The picture on the back wall says “Miss Beauty Queen" 2000-something, and you can see what a toll being a mother took on her. To add to the general confusion and clutter, she’s got a “3rd notice” bill, a “final notice” from the IRS, she got a note from her husband saying “I’m leaving”, and worse yet, she's got another child on the way.

I think what I laughed at the hardest was the look of total resignation on her face.
