I resisted doing a 1950's one because I think that 1950's fashions were so BORING. However I did a few things to "jazz up" this one and think it actually turned out to be one of my best ones, and one I had a lot of fun doing.

First of all, the old lady in the center, that's Aint Emmer. She stole a roll of toilet paper from the church and while the choir sung, 'When the roll is called up yonder I'll be there'., She dropped it and it rolled to the altar and broke up the whole choir. Humiliated, she ran out of church and sought refuge in the nearest bar.

Since cars became hugely popular at that time, I put some teenagers driving one into the bar. (It's a 1956 Chevy Bel-Air). I also made almost everybody smoking. They smoked a lot back then. Hawaiian decor became very popular in the 50's too. I LOVE the background in this one.
I also put a few "kitschy" 1950's items around. Like the cat clock on the back wall (I would love to actually have an authentic one of those).
Some of the characters in the middle-ground left are based on (but not exactly copied except for one) Norman Rockwell's "The Gossips".

I also think that's a pretty fair Eisenhower. He's stepping out on Mamie with the fat woman sitting next to him. She does stuff for him Mamie would never do. When they're alone, she likes to have have him wear her hat and dress. She agreed to meet him only if he'd meet her in public.

She Likes Ike.He's understandably nervous and he brought along some "muscle" just in case of trouble. One of them has spotted the car driving into the bar and is radioing in for help. Another reason for his disdainful expression is that the woman he's looking at just farted.

Although it was unintentional, the guy smoking the pipe above and just to the left of her turned out to look a bit like Fred McMurray.
The couple above the old cowboy, she's based on a picture of Annette. The guy is playfully saying "gimme that drink" and she's holding it away from him. I mainly did that for compositional purposes. I needed something to break up the plaid pattern of the woman's shirt.
