I found so many great paintings and artwork from this era, there was too much to fit into one bar pic, so I had to split it up into early and late Elizabethan periods. This one goes from around the late 1530's up to around the 1570s. (The next one is the 1570's to the 1610's)
First of all, I got a little sloppy with the background characters, especially on the right side. I was wanting to get it done and got in a hurry (but they're not the primary focus anyway).
Secondly, the patterns in the clothing (especially on the right side) are too busy. I should have toned down some of them. Also, the little girl came out awful. I had a lot of problems with her chin and cheek.
However,I LOVE how the chihuahua came out! I actually laughed out loud as I was drawing him. He's nervous, there's too many big people around. His owner is the nervous-looking woman above the tail of the pheasant. Her dog is missing and she doesn't realize someone placed him on the bar. She's a very highstrung woman, kind of shaky and nervous like her dog. The two guys above her are teasing her. One is going to tap her on the shoulder just to watch her jump, but is saying "Excuse me, but isn't that your dog?".
Above and to the right of the dog, I'm kissing the hand of a cute girl. I love how her costume and face came out. That's her mom between us, giving me a disapproving look.
The position and angle of my sword is definitely intentional.
Generally, this is certainly not one of my best ones, but it still has a few, good, detailed costumes.
