JANUARY 2001 NEWSLETTER 2001 kicks off with a lure coursing event! WHAT: Terri Parish will be there to certify dogs to run in ASFA (American Sighthound Field Association) trials. Dogs must be a year old to run and 11 months to be certified. The runs will be set-up according to need and experience of the dogs. We will ask a $1.00 donation per dog to participate in the practice runs. This will help defer the expenses for the upkeep of the equipment we use. There will be information about lure coursing, ASFA and AKC requirements. There will be a BOB match starting at 12 noon or shortly after the lure coursing is completed. This is for Basenjis only. Obedience will be the first event with judging by Linda Auld. Followed by conformation with the judging being done by Alice Wilson. Pre-entry registration fee is $4.00 per dog for each class and day of show is $5.00 per dog for each class. You may obtain a premium list by contacting the Match Secretary Flo Havens at 4531 W. Hearn Rd. Glendale, AZ. 85306, or phone 602-588-0308. The deadline for pre-entry is January 14, 2001. Day of show entries close at 11:00am, January 21, 2001. Classes offered in conformation are: Puppy 6-9 month dog bitch American Bred dog bitch Puppy 9-12 " " Field Trial 12-18 months " " Open Bred by Exhibitor " " Veteran Ribbons will be given for all class placements and trophies for all first place winners. Best in Match and Best Opposite Sex in match will also receive a trophy. We feel this should be an exciting club event and we encourage all Basenji lovers to attend and be part of the activities. There will be food and beverage available for a donation. WHEN: JANUARY 21, 2001 (SUNDAY)-This is the date of our lure-coursing event and BOB match. The gates will be open at 9:00am and the lure coursing will start at 10:00am. WHERE: The location for this important club event is the Apache Junction Rodeo Grounds, located in Apache Junction at N. Tomahawk Rd. and E. Lost Dutchman Blvd. The best way to reach this location is to get on the Superstition Freeway, (US 60) and go east to Tomahawk Rd. Get off US 60 at Tomahawk and turn North (left) onto Tomahawk and stay on that road until it deadends at Lost Dutchman Blvd. The site for our event is the fenced area on the Northwest corner of Tomahawk and Lost Dutchman. Anyone coming from Tucson may wish to come up the old highway through Florence and get on US 60 and follow it to Tomahawk and then turn north (right) onto Tomahawk. For those coming from Phoenix, Tempe or Mesa, Tomahawk is on the Eastside of Apache Junction so you will go past Power Rd, Signal Butte Rd., Ironwood and Idaho Rd.
