I was very dissatisfied with the first 20’s barpic I drew. (https://www.angelfire.com/az3/azartist37b/1920s.html) Just as with many of the other ones I redid, the figures were way out of proportion with the space they occupied. In that particular one, the background figures were too low in the picture and many of the foreground figures were too small compared to other barpics. I did however, like many aspects of the first one and kept them in.
I liked the guy golfing on the bar. In the picture previous to this one (the 1910’s) I had the edge of him in the picture, so I pretty much had to include him. I also kept the people laughing at him and the snooty couple looking up at him. I also kept the lady dancing on the bar and the pervert underneath, looking up her skirt, and of course I had to include the band. Bands in nightclubs and bars were a very characteristic aspect of the 1920’s or the “jazz age”.
In the first one, I had myself holding up the leg of a woman. I had a beard and a style of hair not commonly seen during this time, so in this one, I made myself look more in keeping with the timeframe.
The young girl looks a little funny in this one, she looks a little older than usual but not too bad.
Generally, this one is a lot more tightly controlled than the first one and the costumes are more accurate. Mostly because I found a great costume book of the 20’s.
