December 28th

at St. Andrew's Hall in Detroit

My 5th factory 81 show since the first time i saw them back in february of 2000 was a damn good one. It was December 28th at St. Andrew's Hall in Detroit. I went with my two friends christy and jon. Jon had flown up from pennsylvania for christmas break, and was stayin with me. After getting lost in detroit for a little bit, we eventually found the place. I think standing in line was the low point of the nite, simply because it was so cold...and i definately wasn't about to take my jacket in there. After freezing our asses off for about 45 minutes, we finally got in. The first band to play was Arizing, they're a local band from the detroit area. Much better than i thought they would be, i'll have to admit. Next up was Relative Ash. I'd seen them once before, they're a damn good band. Their set was around 45 minutes. When they finished, we got down from the balcony and on to the main floor. Finally the moment came, and they took the stage. They totally surprised me right away by opening up with "14 Left". They almost always open up their set with Nanu, and close it with 14 Left, so it was quite a change. I can't remember the exact setlist, but i do know they played one of their new songs "Vanity" and then "Ecstacy" right after that. I had heard ecstacy once before, they're both very good songs. They closed out the set with Nanu, and then went off. A few minutes later they came back on, and performed "Insane in the Brain". This was their last song. Nate told everyone that he was really sick, which could explain why he didn't do his routine of jumping off the balcony. Overall it was just an amazing show, and factory always has some of the most intense mosh pits i've ever been in.
