The Family Trip A nursery rhyme gone wrong; it sounds rather pleasant at the beginning... In the original version, anyway, which is straight out of Willy Wonka. (In my opinion, this is a quite obviously semi-sadistic character... he puts those people through Hell, and laughs the entire time. Of course, they deserved it....)
Cake and Sodomy This song was inspired by two commercials, one about God and credit cards, the other was a porn commercial. This is definitely a hit on everything; red necks, Christians, porn stars, pretty much everyone and everything that represents themselves as good, and is only a walking contradiction.
Lunchbox Lunch Box is about kids beating the shit out of each other with metal lunch boxes. There's one kid, (sung about from Marilyn's point of view) that has people picking on him, and he decides that smashing the bully's face in is the way to deal with it. (And why not? Provide a weapon, it will be used.)
Organ Grinder I think this song is about how everyone surpresses what they truly want to be, because they are afraid of being different or offending people (what i say disgusts him, he wants to be me and that scares him) It's also about people being really pathetic; they can't handle what a real person is, so that person has to wear a mask. People guard their stupidity as much as they can. They don't want to see the truth, so they say that anything they don't want to see is a sin. Why guard your stupidity? If anything, you should be getting away from it!
Cyclops I think this song is about how every woman is expected to be beautiful, to try to live up to the standard of all the super-skinny, makeup covered models that try to lead out world and show us what beauty is. To me, beauty is not some ignorant woman who can't see past her own face because her makeup is too thick, or a woman that would break in half if she fell over. These people are so concerned with their own standard of beauty, they don't even realize it has changed. Many people don't have the same standards anymore. I sure as Hell don't have that standard. Art is beautiful, creation and destruction are beautiful, being able to know yourself, except yourself, and place yourself in the world as a strong being, capable of doing what you want... that is very beautiful.
Dopehati peek into the hole, i struggle for control, the children love the show, but they fail to see the anguish in my eyes fail to see the anguish in my eyes (they are not interpreting this as it was meant to be. can't you see my pain? can't you see this isn't real?) i scratch around the brim, i let my mind give in the crowd begins to grin, but they seem to scream when darkness fills my eyes seem to scream when darkness fills my eyes, it's no surprise (obviously, as soon as anything becomes frightening to them, they can no longer handle it. pain is one thing, but when they see the evil i am capable of possessing, they want to run) fail to see the tragic, turn it into magic (they don't want to see the truth, so they pretend everything is magical and wonderful) my big top tricks will always make you happy, but we all know the hat is wearing me (if it were up to me, i would show you the truth..... but it's not) my bag is in the hat, it's filled with this and that my vision's getting fat, the rabbit's just a monkey in disguise stars and pills and needles dance before our eyes (nothing is as it seems) they will bite the hand if it is slower than the quickness of their scrutinizing eyes (they will attack anything they don't approve of) fail to see the tragic, turn it into magic my big top tricks will always make you happy, but we all know the hat is wearing me chicanery will always make you happy, but we all know the hat is wearing me (i cannot show you the truth)
Get Your Gunn As Marilyn Manson has said, this was the ultimate hypocrisy he witnessed growing up. There was a man, Dr. Gunn, and there was a pro-life group. The group did not agree with some of the stuff Dr. Gunn had to say, so they killed him.
Wrapped In Plastic Will it keep the dirt in, or will it keep the dirt out? Everyone tries to stay pretty on the outside, but they are ugly on the inside. Typical american families used to put plastic on their furniture. Marilyn transformed that into a metaphor for trying to stay neat and clean, when you are really dirty and disgusting.
Dogma burn the witches, burn the witches, don't take time to sew your stitches burn the witches, burn the witches (bibles tell you to kill witches. i suppose this has some other metaphor, but I don't know what it is) good is the thing that you favor, evil is your sour flavor (you wish you were all good, but no one is. everyone has a good side and a bad side, and even if you deny that, you can't escape it!) you cannot sedate all the things you hate (you may hate it, but it's here, and getting rid of it is not simple) burn your bridges, burn your bridges, don't take time to sew your stitches burn your bridges, burn your bridges good is the thing that you favor, evil is your sour flavor i don't need your hate, i decide my fate you cannot sedate, all the things you rape
Sweet Tooth The beginning of this song sounds a lot like its about S & M (i want you more when you're afraid of me) and the rest seems to be a general "fuck off" to everyone.
My Monkey This song was inspired by a Charles Manson song (Mechanical Man) with a few of the lyrics borrowed, but mostly written by Marilyn. Once again, it sounds like a sordid nursery rhyme. It implies the basic disciplines of Satan, that being everyone is their own god and their own devil, their own good and their own evil. (we are our own wicked gods with little "g's" and big dicks sadistic and constantly inflicting a slow demise) It also implies that everyone "looks dead," which is more like saying no one has a soul...
Misery Machine I really don't have any interpretations for this song.
