Radio Interview

General Distribution: April 20, 2000

Subject:Broadcast Interview

The following is a partial transcript of a recorded interview conducted by Henri Chapeau for his syndicated cable access show, The Chapeau Files!! (a refreshing and uniquely personal exchange with obscure actors, writers, and musicians), for broadcast in late summer 2000 (sometime in August – check local listings).

(Polite applause as the previous act leaves the little stage. Henri is seated behind the interviewer’s table.)

HENRI: Please make welcome my next special guests. They are the finest of all obscure traditional Irish groups in the States! They are The Castle Band!

(Applause as the band members walk from behind the partition and take seats on the small couch next to the interviewer’s table.)

HENRI: Welcome! Welcome, my musician-type friends. In case our audience is unaware, we have

(reading from a note card)

David Castle on flute and whistle and drum, Stephen Castle on banjo and guitar, Terry Castle on vocals and harmonica and guitar, and Holly Castle on vocals and point of sales!

(More applause.)

Welcome again! And how have you been?

(The band members quizzically look about and finally address Henri.)

DAVE: We’ve been good, man.

STEPHEN: Nog o’ a tune!!

TERRY: Aye!!

HOLLY: I helped my father shovel snow.

HENRI: Excellent!

STEPHEN: Nog o’ … eh …

HENRI: Is he all right?

DAVE: He’s okay, man. It’s just the thought of shoveling snow that has him rattled.

HENRI: And how are your recordings coming along?

HOLLY: If you dial up our website, you’ll find that we’ve posted a list identifying all purchasers of our recording, along with some training camp photos of Paddy’s softball team.

HENRI: Any obscure new numbers since you last were on the show?

TERRY: I found this one that tells the story of a maid who was loved by a woodsman, but she loved – now get this! – she loved this special oak tree deep in the forest. Well, the woodsman found out and got so jealous he chopped down the tree and tried to force the maid to marry him, but she had made a necklace of acorns out of which a branch bolted out and struck the woodsman right in the center of the forehead! It’s a great instrumental piece!

HENRI: And what will you play for us today?

(Applause as the band moves to the stage area and gathers in their instruments.)

DAVE: Here’s a little number that Holly found called Moira, the Flower of Bencoolen. The tag at the end is called Whisky on a Ship on the Sea, and was composed by Steve.
