Controversy

Page One

The orange and blue are significant.
Sorry about your eyes I will change it on next page.

The next few pages are to give you some information about the band CONTROVERSY from its' concept in 1973 through to its' dissolution in 1978. A history lesson for those of you who are not in the know and a trip down memory lane for those of you who remember.

After the break up of THE ALAN KENT SET in 1971 myself (Tat) and Barry (Chopper) decided to form a band playing the music of Jimi Hendrix, Cream and similar artists. After a few months a band was formed with the help of two other musicians, Barry (Bear) and Reg (Hooch). The line up was as follows:- Barry (Chopper) on lead guitar, Barry (Bear) on bass guitar, Reg (Hooch) on rhythm guitar and my self under the guise of Kit West on drums, with all of us sharing the vocals. By the middle of 1973 after Reg deciding he wanted to leave to persue other interests we engaged the talents of Colin (Groggs) a very fresh faced but street wise young vocalist. A few months later Barry (bear) also decided to leave and this put us in the position of looking for a new bass player which we found in Terry. Terry was a lad I used to know from youth club days where he used to play lead guitar with a local band known as THE TRU-BEATS along with his brother Pete on drums (A drummer I used to watch with great enthusiasm). Originally called THE XL FOUR they were advised by a promoter to change their name...To this day nobody knows why. Although Terry was not really into Hendrix he fitted in really well and played exceptionally. We inevitably ended up playing a lot of social clubs and this being the scene that Barry (Chopper) was trying to escape from resulted in him leaving also on friendly terms. (Another casualty). I will continue the later development of CONTROVERSY on the following pages.

(I didn`t see you yawning then did I?).
