“I suppose you’d call us the alternative to alternative”, or “We’re PROCK (pop/rock!) that’s our music” those are the famous words of Taxirider’s Tim Watson and Jason Singh back in 1999 on trying to determine what kind of music Taxiride is.

Well as we all know it’s the best music around made by four of the best men around. Those men, Jason Singh, Dan Hall, Tim Wild and Tim Watson are Taxiride! Formed originally by Watson and Wild back in 1996, Taxiride wasn’t officially born until late 1997 after Dan was spotted by Wild busking at Victoria’s Camberwell Markets (That Wild one has good eyes!!!). Originally their name was to be TAXE but they quickly changed that after finding out another band had the same name. Shortly after that, in the midst of 1998 they signed a joint record deal in the US between Warner Music Australia and Sire Records World-wide. During the recording of their album in the US, the guys were completing the finishing touches to “Get Set” when a producer from Warner Brothers Productions was passing through the studios and heard the single. Straight after that encounter they were added to the soundtrack of the movie “Election” which stars Reese Witherspoon and Matthew Broderick. During 1999 Taxiride returned back to Australia to present to us this exceptional music. In April 1999 their debut single “Get Set” was released and flew up the ARIA (Australian Record Industry Association) chart to number 8. Get Set reached for itself a gold record for exceeding over 50,000 copies sold across Australia. The bands second release “Everywhere You Go” was released shortly after in September 1999 reaching number 15 on the ARIA chart and gave them another gold record. When things couldn’t look better for them they secured themselves an ARIA award in the ‘best new single released by a new band’ category. In October 1999 their debut album “Imaginate” was released and went straight into the ARIA charts at number one! Since its release Imaginate has achieved doubled platinum status across Australia (150,000+). Other singles since then have included the wartime love story “Can You Feel” and most recently “Nothing in this World”.
