In this piece, you will hear four different rhythms composed of only eighth note and quarter note combinations. Rhythms A and B are made up of 11 beat phrases, rhythm C is 12 beats in length while rhythm D is a long 18 beat phrase. Now go back to the listening and see if you can identify where each rhythm is in the piece and if you can hear how many beats are in each. Be careful, for Mussorgsky always used tricky beats in his phrases!!!
