07/11/01: Album Update..
silverchair will finally start work on their new album in July with producer David Bottrill. The long awaited announcement was made directly to silverchair's fans in the latest newsletter from the band's fanclub - the Llama Appreciation Society. It is understood that the band intentionally kept the recording details under wraps so that the LAS members could be the first to hear the news.
As previous chairpage postings revealed, silverchair have been rehearsing new songs almost every day since returning from Rock In Rio earlier this year. The search for a producer took the band several months as numerous candidates were carefully considered by the band before David Bottrill got the nod. A Canadian who has lived in the UK for the last decade, he has done the last two Tool albums as well as work by a wide range of artists including VAST, Peter Gabriel and Robert Fripp and King Crimson.
According to an interview with Daniel Johns in the latest LAS newsletter, Bottrill was chosen because "I was looking for someone who wasn't scared of doing something different which has been harder than I thought. We also wanted someone who didn't necessarily specialise in any specific type of music - just a real 'all-rounder'.".
While precise recording dates are still being firmed up, the band has confirmed that pre-production will commence in mid-July with actual recording to happen in Australia from mid-August. Mixing will happen after that which means that the new, as yet untitled, disc is likely to be released early next year.
