Welcome to the new Beatles Fan Fiction Directory Community. Here is a short introduction for new members or for people who aren't sure how to use a livejournal community. You can skip straight to the community by clicking the above link.

What is the BFFD Community?
The community is an interactive add-on to the main Directory site, a place where you can review, feedback and discuss stories you've read, fan fiction, this site, the Beatles or pretty much anything you can think of! Previously we had a forum, but due to some technical problems and its inactivity, the new BFFD livejournal community replaced it in October 2005, giving us more accessiblity, more security and more options and features. It currently has 2 moderators (or maintainers), myself - the webmaster of the Beatles Fan Fiction Dirctory - my username is Missodell and Faolan is the other moderator. Feel free to contact either of us with any problems or questions. How to contact us is further down this page.

What is Livejournal?
Livejournal is a blog or internet journal site, that hosts personal blogs (an online journal or log) and communities. More info on livejournal can be found here.

How to use the BFFD Community:

i. Do I have to join the community to join in?
You don't have to join the community to read or reply to some of the posts, but some of the posts and comments will be 'friends only' which means that only members of the community will be able to read and reply to them. If you are not a member of livejournal, you're comments will be credited to 'Anonymous'.

ii. How do I join the community?
Firstly, if you are not already a member of livejournal, you will need to register. At that link you will create you own personal journal, which will be your user name and profile. It is up to you how much you use or customise your journal and profile, but you will need this to become a BFFD community member.

Once you have registered you can join the community, just by clicking here.

iii. How can I start a new post/thread?
To post a new thread in the BFFD community, click here. Just scroll to the bottom, and next to the "Update Journal" button, there's a menu that says "Post to". It's set to your own journal by default; if there are no other options than your own journal, then you're not a member of the community yet.

iv. How can I reply to a comment?
At the bottom right-hand corner of each post on the main BFFD community page is a link that will say "reply", "Speak" or simular, depending on your community settings. Just click that to add a comment.

To reply to a comment already left on a post, click the link at the bottom of the comment that says, "Reply to this comment'. Its as easy as that!

How to contact the community moderators:

You can contact either of the maintainers, via thier livejournal contact info, found here. I am missodell, and the other moderator is Faolan.

How secure is the Community?
As previously mentioned, non-members can read and reply to any 'public' posts. If you would prefer your comments and posts be only read by members of the community, you can make them 'Friends only', which means only members can see and reply to it.

To do this, after writing your comment or post, at the bottom of the text box is a drop down menu, saying, 'Security". Set this to 'Friends'.

Anyone worried about flaming or trolls - flaming is strictly banned from the BFFD community and will not be tolerated. Anyone flaming or causing trouble will be banned from the community. Depending on the degree of flaming, there will usually be a warning issued to the offender, and then upon repeat offending they will be banned and thier comments removed from the community.

If you encounter any problems or are upset by any of the comments on the community, you may report it to either of the moderators via livejournal, or email me in confidence to beatlesfanfics@tiscali.co.uk

In extreme cases flamers or troublemakers will be reported to livejournal and may result in them being removed and banned from livejournal permantly.

What topics are allowed on the BFFD community?
The community is open to any topic you want to discuss. Primarily it is there for discussing the Beatles and Beatles fan fics, but you can start a post about any subject. Please make sure you put OT (Off Topic) in the subject line of any off topic posts.
