Portrait of a Visionary, a true Genius, and Leader of the Free World

Randy Houser started playing the guitar at age sixteen. Randy began writing songs and recording with the help of a high school friend, John Ceballos, on John's eight track recording deck. He was influenced by the music of the late 60's and early 70's being played at the time on radio station's KFRC, the Big 610, and KYA. Randy spent his teenage years in Concord, Ca until the age of seventeen. He graduated from Clayton Valley H.S. and joined the Navy for 3 years. After a year of junior college in Napa, Ca., he moved to Fresno. Randy started checking out the local music scene at a night club in the Tower District called THE WILD BLUE YONDER. Open Mic nights were a once a month occurrence where local singer/songwriters could strut their stuff. In 1980, Randy weaseled his way into a local rock band, ALLOY. After changing players, Alloy renamed itself BLONDE OZZIE. For the next few years, Blonde Ozzie rocked around the valley with other local bands such as Rist Rocket, TnT, The Clams, and Anal Spew. Randy wrote original songs, "Nervous with the Girls," "Rock n Roll Ain't Dangerous," and "Pretty, Pretty" for Blonde Ozzie. Randy played lead/rhythm guitar and sang most of the vocals. Blonde Ozzie played at the Star Palace, The Rainbow Ballroom, and The MoonDog Inn. The band broke up and Randy went back to writing and recording at home. Randy has written and recorded hundreds of songs in every genre imaginable. Randy is a genius.

In the 1990s, Randy began writing music reviews for two local music rags. THE LOCAL SCENE and THE "F" ZONE. In 1994, he became a "board operator" for local rock, KKDJ. He worked the all night shifts making very little money, but enjoyed the ambiance of a rock n roll station. It was cool. He was present during the very last BREAKFAST CLUB show with the original DEAN & DON. Randy was also a regular at CLUB FRED'S open mic night and the defunct, FULTON MALL BAR.

In the early part of 2002, Randy met a group of fellow singer/songwriters at a Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) gathering. From these meeting came THE BIG TREES BAND. Big Trees is an acoustic rock n roll band that features Randy on guitar, Tom on guitar, Victor on guitar, Rick on guitar, and Craig on drums. Pretty wild, huh? Big Trees is a band that is focused on original songwriting, but realizing what were up against, we're also focused on having fun as a band. Big Trees is currently playing Friday or Saturday nights at the original, world famous KOFFEEHEADS on Bullard and First Street (next to Albertson's). We hope to see you there one night this week.
