The Boys were in Detroit on Thursday the 20th.
Kevin and Brian spoke with Q95.5 at a fundraiser
for Clear Channel Relief Fund. Seven radio stations
of Clear Channel Communications have teamed up for
a 24 hour broadcast to raise funds for a national
relief effort which will aided the victims and
families affected by the recent tragic events in
New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. The fundraiser
was held at Oakland Mall. There were several other
DJs there so it's not always the same guy talking
to the Boys. To see pictures , go to www.Q955.com

DJ: Ladies and gentlemen, The Backstreet Boys. Alright!
(cheering of other DJs). Make some noise (more cheering). Everybody, they're here tonight at the Palace. Q95.5 along with the rest of the Clear Channel stations welcome them. The Backstreet Boys, Brian and Kevin. Kevin is here with us now.
Kevin: Thank you, its great to be here. Glad we could come.
DJ:
We understand that this has been a really tough time for you guys because this tragedy that we're raising money for right now has hit so close to home. For you guys its like we can't get a break at all around here. Explain to us about how it was having to go back on the road after finding out the loss of one of you road people.
Kevin:
Yea one of our crew members was on his way home to Los
Angeles. He was expecting a child. Uh, His and his other party, they were expecting a child, so he was in one of the planes that actually hit the towers. So it's really sad. And it's hit really close to home to us. And at first it was a little hard for us to get motivated to get back up on stage and perform, but its kinda been therapeutic for us and for the fans we feel like that, you know. We're lifting them up and they're lifting us up and it's therapeutic for everybody. It's been positive.
DJ:
Brian, I understand that it was incredible doing the first show after finding that out that the fans were embracing each other and you guys were doing a moment of silence and you guys actually brought crew up on stage.
Brian:
Yea, we did a, ah, the first show back was September 12 in
Toronto, the day after. And it was kinda weird because Kevin and I were both in Boston the morning of the 11th.
DJ:
How did you guys find out about it? When did you guys find out?
Brian:
He [Kevin] woke up to his security banging on his door.
Kevin: He said "Turn the TV on."
Brian:
and my sister-in-law was blowing up my cell phone saying "Wake
up, turn the TV on." That was like just after the, about 5 minutes after 9, and the second had struck Tower 2 like 3 minutes before. We just missed it, so it was kinda creepy.
DJ:
I gotta tell you, these guys are amazing. They were, when they
finally found out we were gonna do this thing. The Backstreet Boys and Jive Records, their label, decided that they wanted to be the first to contribute. And contributed with 10 thousand dollars (other DJs cheering in background) for helping out Clear Channel. I know that this is been a weird time for you guys. Its good to see you guys back on the road. What should people expect tonight at the Palace?
Kevin:
Just come to the Palace and forget about what's going on in
the world and forget about your problems. Forget about everything and have a good time and lift each other up.
DJ: Now, I've read that you guys are big NBA fans from what I
remember.
Kevin: We definitely are.
Many Dj's talking at once. Its hard to here exactly what they're saying. Something like getting Stack (one of the DJs to get up)
Brian: I'm not too young to know Joe Dumas and all the microwave vinnies. [Sorry, I have no idea what that is, its hard to hear.]
Different DJ:
Careful Brian because Stack just spanked Mojo [DJ] at a game last night.
Brian: It's too bad I gotta work tonight. You know what I'm saying.
Laughs.
DJ: You gotta be careful. Stack can do a little singing too, isn't that right Stack? That's what we should do.
DJ: Stack, Stack, come on you guys should do something.
Stack: You don't have to cry.
Yet another DJ:
Speaking of, you know what, I don't believe you're
the Backstreet Boys, prove it. Prove it to me. I don't believe it. Looks alikes.
Different DJ: I see you guys on videos and everything but-
Brian: Uh, let's see, have ya'll heard the new song "Drowning", the new single?
Dj: You now what you could do?
Brian: What could we do?
Kevin: We'll just sing a lead from one of our songs. We gotta prove ourselves.
Brian: Ok, since Stack is over there trying to show us up, give me that ball and I'll spin it on my fingers, know what I'm saying. Ok, its goes like this
[Sings] Don't pretend you're sorry.
I know you're not
[Says] and the bass goes du du du
[Continues to sing] You know you're not
You know you got the power
To make me weak inside
Kevin and Brian: [sings] And girl you leave me breathless, but it's ok.
Brian: [sings] You are my survival
[Says] du du
[Sings] Now hear me say.
[Says] Now Howie goes I can't image. Know what I'm saying?
DJ: Why don't we have Stack and the Backstreet Boys like America the Beautiful or something? Can you do that? America the Beautiful or God Bless America? Jerry Stackouse and the Backstreet Boys.
Kevin: Actually in the show tonight we are doing America the
Beautiful.
DJ: Could you give us a little akapoco? (Other DJ's laugh) right now? Come on Stack, come on.
DJ: as background music, lets here all 50 phone lines ring. Gives phone number. All you bootleggers roll you tapes now.
Brian and Kevin:
O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed His grace on thee
And crown they good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea
(DJ's cheer)
DJ: There you go Jerry Stackhouse and the Backstreet Boys.
