Reverse Sensor Install
Many new autos have optioned "Reverse Sensor Indication" systems presently. This is not an option for the Sport Trac, so it falls into the modification category.
The reverse sensor systems typically come with 2 sensor or 4 sensor versions. I chose the 2 sensor version due to:
As of this write up, my 2 sensor system has been operational for 3 months. It works great, coverage is spread evenly across the entire bumper range. With my particular model a violation detection object commences at ~8 feet. A more rapid beep occurs at ~4 feet, and a steady on warning at ~2 feet. I have both the visual and aural system that I found new on Ebay.
First, locate the sensor position locations on both sides of the bumper, mark with masking tape, and drill through the bumper with pilot holes. There is substantial metal bumper bracing behind the rubber bumper, as such location is very critical. Also symmetry is important for a professional installation.
Route attached sensor wires through hole, press sensor firmly to engage side clips for a snug fit.
Take the screws holding the cargo bed power plug plate in place, and move aside. The sensor module will be located on the fender well interior space, mounted on the cargo bed wall with double sided tape and silicone.
Pick the reverse + buss from the left rear reverse bulb and splice.
Mount the aural piezo element on the sub amp via two way tape.
Many, many options for the visual LED array, but I mounted mine on the overhead console
Due to the varied manufacturers of these systems, this is only a generic overview of the process. Specific wire color codes should be followed according to supplied directions. My system had minimal connections and was fairly simple to complete.
