~Chapter Four~

Nick and the rest of the boys stared down at Peter's body. It had been a few hours since he fell to the floor, completely wiped out. And he still hadn't woken up. Kevin had checked for a pulse, and found one.

Nick made sure Linda was arrested, he had slept outside his door and heard everything. He still didn't know who the girl was, or why she ran away from him, but he intended to find out.

"Dude, you are so lucky he isn't dead." A.j. commented in his raspy voice. Nick rolled his eyes. "What? I'm serious. This could've killed your career." Nick looked at him sharply.

"I don't give a shit A.j. A girl was in danger, hell I heard here being beat to death. They would have killed her if I hadn't done something. Besides all I did was protect the girl. I had every right to." Nick said with an icy edge to his voice. Kevin nodded, agreeing with Nick.

"He's right, he did do the right thing here." He pointed out, Brian and Howie quickly agreed.

Nick stared past the guys, into the room which the girl, and the two adults had occupied. With his curiousity getting the best of him, he stepped forward into the room. He wanted to know who that girl was, he had recognized her in some sort of way.

There was a chair in the middle of the room, with ropes around it. Underneath the chair something caught his eye.

Bending down, Nick picked up something. He walked over to the light, and found that it was a wallet.  Surprised at his find, he quickly pulled at the velcro, flipping through it he saw some spare cash, and a driver's license.

He held it up to him. There was no picture. 'That's weird' He thought to himself. He read over the name, repeating it over and over in his mind. "Laurel Quinn." He said out loud, that didn't at all sound familiar. He flipped the license over, surprised to find an address of some sort on the back. It was an apartment address. He turned around to face the guys.

"Hey guys, I found the girl's wallet!" He exclaimed with a grin. A.j. and Brian raced into the room, the other guys stood behind. Brian grabbed it, and looked at Nick expectantly. Nick shrugged.

"The name isn't familiar, but the girl is going to need her wallet back." He said with a smirk.

***************

Christy was practically squeezing the life out of my. Managing a laugh, I broke away from her slowly. Wincing from the pain of her embrace. She looked at me with wide eyes.

"I have been so worried about you Laurel. I can't believe they came back for you. You can't go out there anymore, I don't want them to find you again!" She told me firmly. I just nodded. "I think I should take you to the hospital....."

I shook my head quickly, then cried out in pain, forgetting my head was still throbbing. Christy gave me a look. I slumped my shoulders.

"It's for your own good Laur." She said in a grim tone.

"I know. I just don't feel like going anywhere. Can't you just get me some ice or something?" I asked her. She looked at me hesitantly. I pouted. "Please?" She sighed, and stood up.

"Alright I'm going to go out to buy you some stuff for your head. And.....well, everywhere else. Will you be okay alone?" She questioned.

"I think so, It's pretty safe here." I mumbled, Christy nodded, grabbing her coat and her purse before shutting the door behind her.

"Call me if you need anything!" I heard her yell from down the hair. I smiled to myself, and slowly laid back on the bed.

I stood up again, when I felt in my skirt pocket for my wallet. It was empty. "Shit, where the hell is my wallet?" I said outloud, searching in my clothes and on the floor. All of a sudden, I heard a light knock on the door.

Weakly,  I stood up and walked towards the door. Standing on my tiptoes, to see through the peephole. It wasn't Christy, I gasped when I realized it was the guy from that night. I gulped thinking about whether or not I should let him in.

Slowly I opened the door.

He looked up, gasping when he saw me. I stared at him expectantly.

"You're...you're...." He started, not being able to find the right words. I laughed softly at him.

"I'm the hooker." I said shortly, noticing he was holding something in his hands. I grabbed it when I realized it was my wallet. "Oh thank god!" I breathed, then looked up at him. "Thank you for returning it...But how did you know where to find me? How did you know it was mine?" I shot questions at him unknowingly. Nick chuckled.

"One question at a time. I was at the same hotel as you, I was the one who you ran away from." He said. I gasped again.

"I'm so sorry I ran away from you! I didn't know who you were, I thought you were after me too." I said shyly. I looked up at him nervously. "Thank you so much Nick, you saved my life. That may sound like a line," He laughed at this. "But he was seriously going to kill me. Thank you so much?" I bit back  tears. Nick rested his hand on my arm.

"It was no problem...I'm so sorry they did this to you. Who are they, and why did they do it to you anyways?" He asked bluntly. I shifted slightly.

"Well It's a really long story. Come in...By the way you know my name now, what's yours?" I asked teasingly. Nick giggled.

"I'm Nick, Nick Carter." He replied plaintively. I nodded and moved over so that he could come inside.

***************

I laughed at Nick as he told me more stories about him and his friends. He turned out not only to be a  sweet guy, but he was hilarious too.

"So Laurel..." Nick said, attempting to make conversation. "Do you live here alone?"

"Nah, I live here with my best friend, Christy. She went out to get some ice and bandages for me." I said with a wry smile. Nick bit his lip.

"You do look pretty bad. I mean, well, that came out wrong." Nick stuttered. I giggled slightly. "I don't mean you look bad, you just look, well you know, you have alot of scratches and bruises. You still look beautiful of course." He swallowed hard, when he realized what he had said. I looked up at him, shocked.

"Umm...Well thank you Nick." I said in a soft voice. A grin spread across my face. "You're not so bad yourself there, Carter." I said smugly. Nick laughed. We both looked up as the door opened.

"Hey Laurel, I'm back." She called, walking into the room. Her mouth dropped open, and her eyes got wide when she saw me laying my bed, and some guy laying on hers. I looked at Nick and laughed.

"Christy, this is Nick. He's the guy from that night....the one I told you about..." I said bashfully. Christy smiled widely when she figured it out. She put the bag on the nearest chair, and walked over to Nick.

"Well then. Hello there Nick, I'm Christy. Laurel's friend and fellow roommate." She said politely, holding out her hand. Nick smiled and shook it.

"I'm Nick." He said simply. I giggled to myself.

***************

I shut the door, and leaned against it. Letting out a breath I didn't know I was holding. Christy giggled at me from the bed.

"He is definetly gorgeous. And a comedian too!" She commented excitedly. "And he was totally into you too!" She added. I blushed lightly, plopping down on my bed.

"He was not! I am so glad it was him that returned my wallet though." I said sheepishly. Christy rolled onto her side, facing me.

"Well he did give you his number." She said casually. I rolled my eyes, but couldn't help the smile from covering my face. "And he did offer to take you out sometime." She countered. I stared at my hands as if they were the most interesting the world. "And he did give you a hug and a kiss on the cheek before he left." She tempted.

"Okay, Okay. I get it!" I said with a laugh.
