My best friend Hayley is having some 'problems' with her boyfriend, Derek. Actually they have been having some problems for quite a while now. I don't know how I do, but everytime, somehow I get into the middle of it.

For instance, today Hayley invited me out to lunch with her and shopping afterwards. I didn't know she planned to invite Derek too. And normally that would be fine, but in this case I felt like the third wheel.

It wasn't that bad, but when we got settled at our table to eat. That's when it started...I don't remember what sparked the argument (I was probably gazing into space..I tend to do that) but it was like they forgot I wasn't even there.

I didn't want to be nosy, but what was I supposed to do when two people, sitting right across from me were blowing eachother's heads off? More people started to notice them fighting, I tried to act nonchalant and just look around. But I heard tidbits of the conversation. Perhaps things I shouldn't have heard..

All I know is, I didn't like what I heard. Derek was accusing Hayley of things I knew were not true. I was going to point that out, but he would probably bite my head off. I know it might sound I'm covering for Hayley just because she is my best friend, and because I don't like him very much...but have you ever had that feeling, where you meet someone for the first time, and you just get bad vibes from them? I think it was a mutual feeling between both him and myself. He doesn't seem too fond of me..

I think Hayley should have left him a long time ago. She is an amazing person, and friend, and Derek doesn't deserve someone like her.

Anyways, shortly after this fight it ended up how it always does. Derek leaving, putting the blame on her, and her in tears. And then good ol' Ashleigh is there to comfort her right. But when I explain to her what he's doing, of course it turns into an argument between us. She says he loves her he just has a short temper. That really is no excuse....It's almost as if he is tearing us apart, and that is not a stupid assumption, you'll see why in a bit..

Later on, we didn't go shopping because Hayley was tired, and of course she had just had a fight with her boyfriend. So I took her home, and went about my business. Now, when I came home from work, there were no messages or e-mails from her, nothing. Normally we talk quite a few times a day, ESPECIALLY when she and Derek are having their quarrels.

So, I decided to give her a call. Well I was definetly surprised when Derek answered the phone. I tried not to ask any questions so I just asked for Hayley. He asked who it was so I told him, and basically he told me that I was trying to "Take Hayley away from him." Ha Ha, that's funny. Because I do recall being friends with her for quite a few more years than you, Derek!

The jerk hung up on me.

This was only about a couple of hours ago. I was going to call again, but I knew it would end up as a fight between him & me. And then I would most likely never hear from Hayley again. Hopefully, later on I will get up the guts to call her, and just hoping he won't be there.
