Highlyss is a rock band. Plain and simple. You couldn't put us into any specific category or genre. We play what comes from inside rather than trying to do what this-band-and-the-other is doing. There are many differences between our songs.

Variety Rock--that might be another name for it.

Highlyss, this Lansing-based rock band, started as a trio in March of 2001 when guitarist Kevin Wood and drummer Doug Bolin got together for a jam session. Needless to say, a compromise was necessary. Doug's metal influences combined with Kevin's soft rock ear had to be combined into some sort of medium. Highlyss is what they got.

The band has played a few shows in Lansing including the Muse Cafe on Ridge Road and the Lansing Youth Center on Burnham Avenue--also, shows like the Elwood Days Festival in Elwood Illinois and The Lansing 2001 Back To School Bash held at Lan Oak Pool.

Not long after bassist Derek Barthel joined the band, Highlyss was given a spot in Thornton Fractional South High School's talent show called "Rebelfest". The group played "Foresight", an original song, and took first place.

A recent addition to the band, new lead singer Dave Szczur has added a brand new spark to the live performance of the band. Now the band hopes to be playing more shows around the area and appreciates the support of those who have helped them along the way.
